Meeting the Demand Although St. Xavier places first emphasis on the Classical Course of Studies, it by no means neglects the sciences. Our fac- ulty are providing demanding science courses in response to President Eisen- howerls plea for better trained American scientists. Fr. Follen teaches his chemistry class from his own textbook, in which he emphasizes the why's,' behind scientific theory. Mr. Gross wrote the physics lab book used at St. Xavier, and is joined in this department by Mr. Dasbach. Mr. Brennan rounds out the scientific depart- ment with his chemistry course. 19

MATHEMATICS Experience Counts Xavier students receive more than an adequate college prep course in algebra, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Composing the math faculty are Messrs. McAnaw, O'Leary, and Cook, and Fathers McMahon and Robinson. It is cer- tainly a faculty of experienceg Messrs. McAnaw and O,Leary between them have alone taught forty years of math at Xavier. With teachers like these, St. Xavier High School provides the mathematical foundation this scientific age requires.
