Mr. Alfred D. Cavanaugh Mr. Cavanaugh's alfable smile and quiet personality have made him a hit with the students of his freshman English and sophomore American history classes. He coaches the golf team in his spare time outside the classroom. Mr. Robert L. Connelly, S.J. Mr. Connelly is again teaching history to the frosh and sophs. His duties as Assistant Athletic Direc- tor and coach of the freshman basketball squad demand much of his time. Mr. John T. Dulin, S.J. Mr. Dulin's third year at Xavier finds him moderator of the Senior Sodality, the Bellarmine Debaters, and president of the Greater Cin- cinnati Speech League. Mr. Dulin spends his time in the classroom teaching freshman English and algebra. Mr. John J. Foley, S.J. The highly successful Xavier Aqua-Bombers are but one ac- tivity of several which fill out Mr. Foley's busy day. His sophomore and junior English and speech classes compose his classroom schedule, and the Band and the Orchestra take up the remainder of his spare time. Mr. James J. Creighton, S.J. Mr. Creighton, a fourth year Eng- lish teacher, also instructs the jun- iors to express themselves in speech class. He is moderator of the Campion Debaters in addi- tion to being in charge of the Junior Sodality. Rev. George R. Follen, S.J. The chemistry students find it easy to solve any difhculties which may arise about elements or ions. Like- able Father Follen,- the author of their textbook, answers their ques- tions readily. 1 Mr. James J. Donnelly, S.J. Mr. Donnelly, in his first year at Xavier, does a very capable job of instructing the freshmen and sophomores in Latin. Outside class he is moderator of the Soph- omore Sodality and in charge of the Junior Red Cross and the Poster Club. Mr. Thomas A. Gentil The Xavier Marching Band has become a compact, well co-ordi- nated unit under the capable di- rection of Mr. Gentil. The fine performance of the band during half time at the football games is due to the hard work and efforts of Mr. Gentil.

R' 1 ry ,,!,,4 . f if Tritt I Father Fay, Messrs. Middendorf and Wuest eagerly await any ques- tions at the Mothers' Club meet- ing. Mr. Thomas N. Ballaban Mr. Ballaban's efforts have made the varsity football and basketball squads the tremendous successes that they are. A result of his teach- ing ability is the excellent showing of his freshman history classes. Mr. John J. Brennan Mr. Brennan's quiet and efficient methods of teaching are the de- termining factors behind his achievements in the algebra and chemistry classrooms. Mr. Bren- nan is in his twenty-first year at Xavier. Mr. Ralph J. Bastian, S.J. Mr. Bastian's witty philosophy of life is one of the reasons for his success in the classroom. He teaches Latin to freshmen and seniors, and Greek to the juniors. This edition of the X-RAY is due to Mr. Bastian's very capable direction. Rev. Richard J. Brown, S.J. This year completes Father Brown's twenty-eighth consecu- tive year of teaching at Xavier. His prowess in the algebra class- room is founded on his many years of experience in handling students.

Rev. Joseph J. Gillespie, S.J. Father Gillespie, priest and ma- gician, never fails to amaze the students of his religion classes by performing astonishing feats of lcgerdemain after his lectures. Mr. James A. Glenn Mr. James A. Glenn follows in the steps of his distinguished father. Before leaving for the army, Mr. Glenn taught English to freshmen and sophomores. Mr. Emmett P. Holmes, S.J. Mr. Thomas L. Hogan, S.J. Mr. Hogan, Athletic Director, does a yeoman job of scheduling games, selling tickets, chartering buses, and all the countless duties his position requires. ln the class- room he teaches third year Eng- lish. uf? Mr. Holmes, familiar to everyone as the man in the bookstore, keeps the student body well sup- plied with paper, pencils, erasers, and other paraphernalia. His teaching schedule includes third and fourth year French and sec- ond year Latin. Q .1 Mr. James P. Glenn Mr. James P. Glenn's busy sched- ule includes junior and senior English classes and freshman and senior speech classes. Because of his vast knowledge and experi- ence Mr. Glenn was appointed director of the school play. Rev. Charles A. Graf, S.J. Four periods of Latin a day keep Father Graf busy. ln addition to this he holds the important posi- tion of head of the Civilian De- fense organization at St. Xavier. Rev. Joseph H. Lechtenberg, S.J. Father Lechtenberg is one of the mainstays of the Latin depart- ment, for he teaches that classical language to freshmen, juniors, and seniors. Father Lechtenberg also is moderator of the Apostle- ship of Prayer. Rev. Warren G. Lilly, S.J. Father Lilly has had outstanding success in the Held of converts. His powerful arguments and persua- sion make an excellent back- ground for his religion classes, where he teaches freshmen, soph- omores, and seniors.
