lillEllUU ' Ll ii gg VERY yearbook records accurately and viv- idly the activities and events concerning the school and its students, whose thoughts, words, and deeds make up the book. To attain this goal the staff of the 1955 X-RAY has chosen to tell the story of this school year chronologically, starting with summer vacation and culminating with graduation. In planning the annual last summer, we decided to use the method to highlight the chronological sequence of the year which the ancients had used long ago to symbolize the passing of time--the zodiac signs. The first zodiac signs were developed by the ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Chinese years before the advent of Christ. We have used these symbols to show the relation of each division to a particular period of the year. Thus, we have divided our book into six sections. Each section represents two months of the year and each is illustrated by its respective zodiac signs. Following this chronological motif we have abandoned the style of former Xavier yearbooks and have made several radical changes in the for- mat to adhere to it. That is, rather than have the various activities and school functions scattered throughout the book at random with very little reason other than custom for their order, we have endeavored to place each organization, group, or club in the chronological period in which it is most active. As a result of our eiforts to present an orderly, connected review of school life, we harbor the fond hope that this edition of the X-RAY will prove to be a more complete and more exact chronicle of the school year and a more enjoyable book for you, its readers.

Our final few weeks at Xavier were, per- haps, the most enjoyable of all. The fresh new life of spring seemed to brighten us up. Most of our school work completed, we could afford to relax a little and enjoy the final activities of the year. The junior and senior proms, the big social events of the season, were nights we will not soon for- get. And who can measure the fun we had at the May Fete, or on our class picnic, when we ran until we dropped, and ate and drank until the sandwiches and pop dis- appeared. Finally the big moment toward which every Xavier student strives-grad- uation! How long we will remember the Mass and breakfast together at school, the commencement exercises at the Heldhouse, the congratulations, words of advice and encouragement! Yes, the newness of fresh- man year, the relative insignificance of the sophomore, the pleasantness of being juniors, and the thrill experienced in senior year when we become Xavier men, these we will long remember.
