Of course, we all had some sort of work, perhaps even a steadyjob, to keep us busy during the sum- mer months. But there was also plenty of opportunity for recreation beneath Cincin- nati's hot sung and, with no homework in the evenings, there was more time for our hobbies, for movies, or for reading a few good books. Many a bright, sunshiny day found us packing up the family picnic bas- ket for a day of fun at Coney. Some of us took a vacation with the family to explore our country orjust to have fun at a summer resort. As always when we are busy and having fun, the days and weeks passed by swiftly. Soon, football practice was under wayg the faculty were busy preparing for registra- tion. All of us realized that summer was nearly over, that another school year was almost upon us. OR over a quarter of a century, a Jesuit of St. Xavier High School has devoted all his energies to the enlight- enment and guidance of the students. Reverend Richard J. Brown, S.J., has been a guiding light of inspiration to all who have come in contact with him for twenty-eight years. Over this period of time his influence has been felt in the spiritual and intellectual spheres of St. Xavier. His advice and counsel have provided solutions to the problems of many. Through the years he has per- formed tasks of which anyone would be proud. Both in the class room and outside of it his conscientious interest in the students' welfare, intellectual and spiritual, has always been out- standing. Father also spends long hours in his confessional both in the student chapel and at St. Xavier Church, where he puts Godis errant children on the straight and narrow path. One of Fatheris favorite spiritual activi- ties is the Thank You God Club. There are no meetings to attend, no dues to pay, the only requirement be- ing that the members thank God often for His countless benefits and graces which they daily receive. In ad- dition, Father Brown takes part in the various liturgical functions of St. Xavier Church. Father Brown's life at St. Xavier has indeed been inspiring. He has always harbored a true love of God which reveals itself in his faithful service 'first to God and then to his fellow men. Fatheris activities are a con- stant stimulus to those about him, who greatly benefit from his scholas- tic and religious example. With these creditable facts in view, the 1955 X- RAY is respectfully dedicated to Rev- erend Richard J. Brown, S.J.

Just as autumn started to daub the Cincin- nati landscape with colorful patches of red and yellow, school began. Reluctant to end the fun-lilled days of summer vacation but looking forward to the busy schedule ahead, we made our way downtown to answer the Hrst sounding of the school bell. For many of us, this was our first year at high school. Everything was new-the building, teach- ers, subjects. It took us several weeks to adjust to our new life at Xavier and become acquainted with the daily routine. For the rest of us, September was a matter of re- newing friendships and getting back into the swing of things. To start the year right, we dedicated our studies to the source of all knowledge in the annual Mass of the Holy Ghost. The crisp, autumn air turned our atten- tion to football, and once again the spirited Bombers ably represented the Blue and White of Xavier on the city's gridirons.
