eniord Most of what we would like to tell you about our four years here cannot be described by ordinary prose-or, for that matter, poetry. We have lived in an atmosphere where we have grown from boyhood to manhood, where our minds have been besieged by an orderly progression of mental disciplines, where our bodies achieved a resiliency, in intra-mural as well as varsity sports, which the participant can feel but not point out. This, as we say, is hard to describe. Could we accurately point out what a help it was to begin our day with Mass and Communion ? What a comfort the confessional has been to us these years ? But here is our section of the annual -where we, the seniors, tell our story. High school days have ended, but not their memory. What recollections and reminiscences this X-RAY will recall years from now as we squint, through eyes no longer keen, at the old gang and the familiar haunts. However, the future is afar. Let us look now at the past and the present.

THROUGH THESE DOORS . IN 1947 CARROLL H. AHLERS DAVID A. ALLEN RICHARD J. ALLEN THOMAS W. APKING PAUL E. ARMBRUSTER MORAND J. BACH THOMAS J. BALL GEORGE A. BAUER 5. .,. Four years ago, in Russia, Stalin assured us peace in Europe by compromise. In China, the Nationalists captured Yenan, the red capital. In Europe, peace treaties were con- cluded with five Axis satellites. In America, Marshall inaugurated the American contribution toward peace-The Marshall Plan. Meanwhile, at a secret meeting in Poland, nine European countries revived the Com- munist lnternational. The newly formed Cominform pledged to fight American Imperialism. In downtown Cincinnati, a hundred and fifty of us filled out registration applications, slowly battling with last name first bIanks. Our arms loaded with new books, we thought only of the new life we were entering. World affairs didn't concern us os they: now do. We were anxiously awaiting our first day of high school - the day we came, for the first time, through the doors of St. Xavier's. Il8
