DEDICATION ANY generations of graduates have gone out from St. Xavier High School into the various walks of life. To all of these alumni we wish to dedicate the 1948 X-Roy. Since it is obviously impossible to list all these graduates, we have chosen five of their number to represent their fellow alumni in typical professions. To typify all the Xavier men who have gone on to be spiritual leaders as priests and religious we have chosen the Most Reverend John King Mussio, J.C.D., '20, Bishop of Steubenville. Mayor Albert D. Cash, '1 l, lupper Ieftl of Cincinnati, de- picts for us the Xavier graduate in public life. The Xavier trained educator is portrayed by Dr. Francis A. Arlinghous, '22, Uower lettl, Professor of History at the University of Detroit and incumbent President of the American Historical Association. In the medical field Dr. Edward J. McGrath, l24, tupper rightl, Assistant Dean and Professor of Surgery of the University of Cincinnati Medical School, typifies the Xavier prepped doctors whose name is legion. Mr. Anthony C. Elsoesser, '10, llower rightl, owner of the Palace Hotel in Cincinnati, stands for the countless Xavier men who have made their way in the business world. To these men and to all Xavier grads they represent we dedicate our book. Page 5

ALL PATHS LEAD TO THE ETERNAL COMMENCEMENT look back upon pleasant years of study, fun, and friendship. Recalling many days and nights of strenuous application, we are justly proud in boasting that these years have' been our accomplishment. a5 we approach that Iong-awaited graduation evening, we But our mastery is not complete. This school life has merely been the beginning afour journey through life; all along our eyes have been fixed on the end of this journey, our ETERNAL COMMENCEMENT. We are now about to select the particular path to our ETERNAL COMMENCE- MENT, whether it be law, medicine, or the sanctuary. We have consulted our Jesuit guides. We have set our compassest We have stored up our provisions. It is true that each of us will choose a different paths But ultimately we will arrive at the same goal, the summit of Eternal Life 7 In planning this year- between two coversl', we, the Seniors and Underclassmen of St. Xavier High School, have been mindful of this goal: the ETERNAL COMMENCEMENT. This catalogue of our school life in the '47-'48 season has been arranged in order to mirror the ultimate purpose of each single hour spent here in the halls of Xavier: to mold and strength- en youthful characters and bodies for the achievement of this goal.
