These intrepid soldiers of Christ were martyred by the Iriquois Indians some three hundred years ago in what is now New York State. To St. Isaac and his noble companions, who ventured all that $ '. we might profit from their efforts, we, the Class Of 1947, dedicate the presenl edition of THE X-RAY. 1 PICTURE 01: THE. As the sun sank over the hills of Clifton the cast of the Third Annual Variety Show was gathering in the iiwings of Wilson Memorial Auditorium to prepare for its final performance. May 4th was the day; the crowd of 850 sat expectantiy. Behind the scenes Mr. James V. Mc- Glynn, S.J., and Mr. J. William Dahlenburg were conferring over the six numbers the concert band was going to play. John Gilligan was seen picking up his little flute and after blowing a i sweet note stepped on the stage. After the audience got over this attack the curtain fell open and nobody was on the stage. Suddenly the band was seen coming down the side aisle and was followed by C. James Meakin dressed as Romeo. The band swung into its theme, In the Mood, and the show was started. Household hints were given by Miss Tizzie Lish iJoe Palazzoloi to y the audience and was ushered off the stage by Herb Witte as he came on to sing Old Black ii Magic. David Sweigart pushed his piano forward and played two lovely Chopin pieces. The 'iDigger in the form of Bill Listerman gave out with a few helpful hints on how to die. Herb Witte was brought back and he crooned out Mr. Dahienburg's song, iiDreams of Home. Jim Nieman followed with several tap dance numbers. iiBumbIe Boogie was the selection of Paul Daeger. The feature of the first act was the staging of the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera, i'Pirutes of Penzance by the Glee Club. The main parts were sung by Hal Meirose, Herb Witte, Tom Schoenberger, and Frank Bertke. The comedy end was held up by Joe McDevitt and his band of Police. Joe Palazzoio was the Narrator. After a short intermission, the second act began with Xavier Bombers.y Dick Hartigan stepped on stage to tell about his troubles down at TX with his i'chokin' knot tie!H The Ac- cordion Quartet put themselves into the spotlight with i'Brnzii. Then Bruce Summers did a solo, HDizzy Fingers. J H. ByM. F. H. song out Joe Cloud and his advertising slogan was helped along by Dan Delaney and Ray McNamara. Operations Sawbones began with Doctors Ed Sullivan and Bill Cleary operating on poor Charlie Cook. Two further numbers by the Swing Band marked the end of the show. To all who helped in the production, to all the boys who worked on the business staff and who helped the stage manager, congratulations are due. The 1947 Variety Show will remain a happy memory. The Class of lV-E points proudly to its Mission Collection record, the highest in the school,- also it looks with pride to its men who have merited both athletic letters and scho- lastic honors during the past year.
