Dedication VVhen the allied troops stormed the coast of Normandy in a determined attempt to establish a beachheact. the only structure that survived that fierce onslaught was a statue of Mary Immaculate. Many of our boys felt wounded there at the Virgin,s feet, and poured out their last, as Our Lord had done, under the compassionate eyes of the Btessecl Mother. That bloody war, in which ail these brave men died for their country, was declared on December 8, 1941, on the feast of the Immaculate Conception. For almost four years. it vent its fury upon the world, and men of all nar tions and creeds took up arms and struggtect desperately for supremacy. Surety Mary, the patroness of the United States. watched with especial care the boys fighting be- neath the red. white. and blue. And we can Feet. with equal certainty, that Our Ladv was a powertut hetp-mate in bringing to an end a war which cost the lives of so many of her sons. Therefore, we take this last, yet most appropriate 0C- casion, to otter our sincere thanks to all those alumni of St. Xavier High School. who died in the service or their country. To them we gratefully dedicate this yearbook the X-Ray of 1946. And in so doing. we beseech the Holy Mother of God to look down with kindness and pity on these Xavier boys. now departed, and to raise them up from the scarred and bloody battlefields to a higher place where there is no sorrow. no pain. no death.
