Co-captains Frank Szymanski and John Lang, who in late season represented the school in the all-star team, were the sparks of the heavies. Bonflin 'fGet out the crying towel, we just lost one, was a frequently-heard lament this year at the Rose Bowl as sixteen teams sought top honors. Competition was tough throughout the long season from September through April. The season closed with Joe O'C0nnor's team, Team 4, out in front, while VIC Longhini's team, Team 6, was a close second. To the good management of William Mathews goes much of the credit for another successful year. Volleyball The volleyball team played a season of nine games, five of which they won. Their great victory was the one over our neighborhood rival, Fenger. Besides these successes the girls captured third place in the Palmer Park tourna- ment. In an all-star game, Irene Kurzeja, Marlene Scardine, and Beverly Yukon were chosen to represent St. Willys.
