GRIDIRON '69 St. Wendelin Mohawks-young, inexperienced, and terribly weak on the bench. What would you do? One thing that the Mohawks did not do was to give up! They went into every game with spirit, eagerness, and the determina- tion to win. According to Coach Peluso, the Mohawks outplayed their opposition 75fXn of the time, while inaccuracy and the lack of timing were their downfall. Injuries were also a problem for the Mohawks who played most of their games without key players. The Mohawks won two more games than they did the year before. The Mohawks' defense held the league champs, Huron, to only i3 points, but their offense failed to score. The Mohawks finished 3-7 overall for the season. Len Lahman joined the squad in the season after recovering from injuries received in football. Special gratitude to Len Lahman and THE FOSTORIA REVIEW-TIMES for their talents and equipment in photography to which this sports section owes its quality . . . bill. The season started with a fresh, three-senior, two-junior starting line-up. By the Christ- mas break, the team had racked up 4 wins and 2 losses-quite a surprise for most spectators. Expectations rose for a great season, but the Huron win was followed by five straight losses. The team struggled desperately for o .SOO mark, but in vain, ending the regular season with an 8-lO record. Tournament play was short-lived as Northwood bumped the Mohawks in the first match. So ended the season-a disappointment for some, satisfaction for others. The record shows effort itself. lt was not expected to be quite so victorious for the group of young players.
