AS TIME MARCHES ON September 3, l952 started the Countyline Street parade of eager teenagers back to school again. The enrollment figures reached an all- time high of l80. The preview game, September 5, in which the Mohawks got off to a good start, opened the athletic and social events of the school year. Both grade and high schools enjoyed a happy free day while their teachers attended a diocesan meeting at Toledo, September l2. Hat dogl The new CYO season was initiated with a wiener roast in Gray's park on the l5th lwith the new officers presiding.l The l6th set off with a bang the Wendelette and Foslin Ad Drive. On that some day, the Kiwanis Club sponsored a steak fry for the foot- ball team. The Ad campaign closed on the 24th, leaving o 2-day breather before the subscription crusade opened. Two hundred seventeen soldiers of Christ were inducted into the l.ord's Army on September 28 when our Most Reverend Bishop George J. Reh- ring administered the Sacrament of Confirma- tion here. 20 All forms of dancing were attempted at the CYO deanery party here, October 3. Many learned to schottische that night. October 7 was marked by headaches and cramming in preparation for the first six week tests October 8-l0. The Christmas pageant was presented December I9, and, on this same day, the second number of the Wendelette was distributed, just before the happy students left school, not to return until after i953 had begun. Holiday Hop, the annual school formal, was an event of January 2 in the grade school auditorium. January 5 saw everyone back on the job. January I3 brought Father Weber, S.J. from John Carroll University to speak to our boys. JANUARY I6-a happy day for Fostoria. Our new Pastor, Father Ruffing, arrived from Mans- field. He was solemnly installed the following Sunday, met the parishioners informally at the high school the following Sunday, and was greeted by a program of welcome from the chil- dren on February 6. In memory of Father Kirsch's namesday, January 23, Father Ruffing gave all of us a candy treat. Through the courtesy of the Vogel-Elsea Music Shop, we witnessed the inauguration of our new President, on TV, January 20. On January 30 twelve seniors took a long day to take a short test in Tiffin. Friday the I3th brought bad luck to the Mo- hawks. They lost their first tournament game by I3 points, to St. Joe, Fremont. February 8-opening of the Catholic Chron- icle Campaign, which closed on the 24th with the sophomore girls on top. Willis Droll was the leading student. February 28 over WFOB, four seniors kicked around the subject of teenage driving. Similar panel discussions by our students followed every two weeks. March I-I 5 was the two weeks Parish Mission conducted by Father Aiden Witte, O.F.M., Conv. and Father Cyprian Terwoord, O.F.M., Conv. The Mission was also for the high school and grades. At the CYO Communion Breakfast, March I, Mr. Francis Seibert, Cartoonist, was the guest entertainer. Father Victor Nieporte, S.J., St. Xavier Uni- versity, lectured here March 5. On March 6, William Bodart and Ann Marie Witmore forsook the hallowed precincts of St. Wendelin to go, one south, the other north. Bill was the guest of the Rotarians at the World Af- 62 fair Institute in Cincinnati, while Ann Marie took the Scholarship Test and attended Open House at Notre Dame College, Cleveland. March I9 the boys choir sang the Mass cele- brated by Father Schill in honor of his Patron, the great St. Joseph. Near the end of the seventh class period, Father Ruffing, Father Pelletier, Faculty and students assembled in the auditor- ium for a surprise nameday program for our Principal. B. E. Day, afternoon of March 27. While the teachers visited business and industries, the students were free as the March winds. March 29, afternoon and evening, the Glee Clubs and Band entertained capacity crowds of music lovers. Benefits went to the Band with a view towards uniforms for them in the near future. Holy Week followed, with Love! Sorrow! Re- parationI as its theme. On Vocation Day, April 2l, the juniors and seniors had a chance to talk things over with personnel of various professions and industries. Junior-Freshman Mission Party followed two days later. 'Twas a huge success. April 29 was really a BIG day-feast of St. Robert, the Patron of our Pastor, Father Ruffing. Every one did his best to make the day a gala one for Father. lt's Papa Who Pays was the name of the senior class play staged May 3-4 under the direction of Mrs. Jane Magers, '44. Ascension Thursday, May 7, ideal for class trips. Moy 24--Baccalaureate Mass followed by Jr.-Sr. breakfast in the cafeteria. In the evening the solemn crowning of the May Queen was fol- lowed by the distribution of honors garnered during the school year. On May 30 the Reverend Edward Lichtle, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Lichtle, was ordained to the Priesthood. He celebrated his first solemn Mass the following day here in St. Wendelin Church. May 3l-Graduation of the thirty-nine seniors who have successfully completed this phase of their academic work.
