Iulia Ledwedge, and Alfred Rifzler were the class representatives to tender our greetings to Father Walz on the feast of St. Michael. The Home Arls class said, Let there be cake - and a cake was made. Father Walz saw that it was very good: so, too, did Rev. Father Kirsch. Mr. Her- man, and Alfie Ritzler. lNote the left background: yon Bob Lamberiack has a lean and hungry 1ook.l Page Forty-Eight ,4 W Reheal Father Westendorf, our retreat master, had the qualities that appealed to all the different types oi characters that would be found in a coeducational high school. Not only did his dynamic personality make his talks interesting, but his deep and con- vincing spirituality led us on to make deeper and more sincere resolutions for improvement. 7fze Ghana Qew Roll out the red carpet. and bring along a dictionary. These hopes began to sag a little when the first three games were lost. But we knew that those first three games were the heavy end of the schedule. In losing them we were gain- ing the experience and power and spirit that made us tough for the remainder of the cam- paign. We started out with Lima St. Rose who dealt us a 20-0 defeat, thanks to those tall Car- dinal end men and our own inexperienced aerial defense. At Fremont St. Ioe we were really in the driver's seat when the half ended 13-13. Everything was going fine until an unexpected fumble turned the tide and Fremont piled on two quick touchdowns to end the game 25-13. Calvert was just too tough, and the Tiffin boys deserved their 27-0 win even though we set off some fireworks of our own the second half. ft I 4 Page Sixty At last it was our turn to crash the win column, and Lorain St. Mary was the victim, 19-0. Rain and mud! Next came Elmore. More rain, more mud, and more touchdowns. The score- board read St. Wendelin 42, Visitors U. the first time since 1941 that a St. Wendelin team had scored more than 21 points. We were aiming for a new Mohawk record of six wins but the highly touted Lakeside Bulldogs decided otherwise. We played stellar ball that night and held the fleet backs of the opposition pretty well in check, but We had to settle for a 12-O defeat. Oh, yes: the rain came down in torrents. At Norwalk we came through again as we Whipped St. Paul in a rather weird game, 19-O. Rain, of course. Possibly the best game We played was at Sandusky St. Mary, Where we led in every department, including penalties. In fact, penalties were the only thing that kept us from running the score over the 41-6 mark. NO RAIN this time. We finished the season with Gibson- burg. and more rain. The Bears put up a ' stiff fight until the fading minutes of the game when we clicked off the 13-0 vic- tory. It should be added that half our touchdowns this year were the explo- sive type, coming on runs of forty yards or more. incidentally, five Wins is the most the Mohawks have ever won in a season. That was the count in 1924 when the Wendies first took to the grid- iron. And that was the count this year. What could be a better way to observe the si1ver jubilee? d 'x,,,, We They 42---Norwalk St. Paul .A . , . ,.., 4 1 41-Fremont St. Ioe ....,.. ,,A77,... 4 9 41-Risingsun .,.,,vV , ,A, ...w... 4 0 33-Tiffin Calvert ......... 7.44.,,, 3 4 34-Genoa .................... ....... 3 8 35-Fremont St. Ioe ,,,.444 ....... 5 1 34-Bisingsun ...........,... .,...... 4 5 43-Lake ......... ....4.. 3 5 BASKETBALL Page Sixty-Three 23- 37- 44- 37- Sandusky St. Mary ,.
