R. G. Kirsch P g F To whom shall we dedicate this book of precious mem- ories? lf the answer to all questions were as simple as the response to this one, we should certainly all get very high marks in our examinations. Surely, it is most appropriate that we dedicate this, the fifteenth volume of our annual, The Froslin, to none other than our Principal and friend, Father Kirsch. Reverend Father Kirsch came to Fostoria as pastor of St. Wendelin parish on Iuly 1, 1942. It was on February 3. 1943, that Father Kirsch assumed the additional heavy tasks of principalship of the high school. Although a multiplicity of duties engage Father Kirsch's presence and attention elsewhere during a por- tion of each day, the spirit of his magic presence and influence resides with the high school always, where he graciously directs everything to the very best advantage of each individual. With deep appreciation, therefore, it is to our Reverend Pastor and Principal that we, the senior class of St. Wen- delin High School, dedicate this, the 1943 Froslin. Page Five Rev. R. J. Osterhage 1Jl'illCil7Zll 1936-Feb1'uzu'y 1943 Pane Six The tremendous importance of religious training has become more apparent in the past several years. Those nations which have prohibited such training, or in any way obstructed the free performance of man's God-given duties, find themselves miser- ably enslaved by the vices of hatred, greed, and other selfish ambitions. That godless, materialistic philosophy has now en- gulfed the world in a ruthless, savage and bloody conflict. To acquire a knowledge of God is one thing: to absorb that knowledge and regulate your daily lives according to the will of God is quite another thing. St. Wendelin High School is a pow- erful influence in the building of solid, God-fearing characters. Your gratitude to God for permitting you to live in our beloved United States of America, which has preserved, and is making every sacrifice today to preserve, along with your other unalien- able rights. the right to serve your God, should never cease. In this glorious nation, St. Wendelin High School has offered you every opportunity, not only to acquire a knowledge of the prin- ciples of temporal and eternal peace, but likewise to practice these principles. Yours has been the august privilege of an intimate association with the Prince of Peace at Daily Mass and Holy Communion in your high school chapel. Your teach- ers and your fellow students, by word and example, have assist- ed you in acquiring the habit of walking firmly and confidently in the footsteps of the Prince of Peace. These Christian habits supported. not by guesswork and confusion of mind, but by positive, divine truths and clearly settled notions of the principles of right and peaceful living, will be the source of your future peace and success. P May this yearbook serve as a constant reminder of the greatest of all your unalienable rights, the right to such a training in youth as has equipped you with the knowledge and virtues necessary for a peaceful sojourn in this world and above all, for a blessed union with the Prince of Peace for all eternity. Rev. R. I. Osterhage. Page Seven Memories and activities of our high school life, par- ticularly the high lights of the past school year, are depicted for you in this fifteenth volume of our annual, The Froslinf' We believe that St. Wendelin's is an outstanding example of all Catholic high schools, especially so be- cause we have the greatest possible advantage of having the living Christ in our midst. The Heal Presence in our little chapel is a continuous and inspiring incentive to each and every student privileged to attend this institution of learning. Again, we consider ourselves most favored children of Divine Providence in having most competent and benevolent priests and sisters as our directors and instruc- tors. During our four years of high school studies follow- ing, as they did for most of us, eight years of grade school instruction under a similar regime, we have been given every opportunity for achieving the best mental, moral, and intellectual training. As we, the seniors, now prepare to leave school and confidently take up the responsibilities that will be ours, we are, perhaps, not fully cognizant of the greatness of the task that is before us. Of this, however, we are certain, that if we live up to the ideals of our Alma Mater, we shall never fail. Page Eight Ganfeniii AZ . .li Z. N Z. ft, I vqiamifzwn Glafuefi Nthleiica an! Osterhage The senior class play, Who Wou1dn't Be' Crazy! by Katherine Kavanaugh, was presented May 13. 14. The play centers around lack Marshall, Speedy, who, after following Lois all over Europe and part of America, finally ends up by finding her in a sani- torium. Much of the humor, which is profusely scattered throughout the story. is focussed in Pluribus, the colored lad. The act is cleverly climaxed by the discovery of the thieves and kidnappers in the persons of the would-be Inmates. CAST Inmate No. 1 ,...... lnmate No. 2 ..... Pluribus .....,.. His clever playing and spotless sportsmanship were his outstanding contributions. Harold's height was a large asset towards keeping the team in possession of the ball. IAMES SMITTY SMITH lSenioi-J Smitty's speed and accuracy were a major contribution to the success of the Mohawks. When Iim was absent from several games, he was greatly missed. He placed second in the city scoring honors. DONALD HOOTY I-IUTH tluniorl Specializing in all-around playing, Don always proved ascompetent man to help the team out of a tight spot. He was noted for his splendid spirit of fair play. Don will be a key man on next year's Mohawk team. BERNARD BARNEY ELCHERT tSeniorl During the past season Barney's scrap and determination were valuable assets to the team. Although his effectiveness and versatility were handicapped by his size. Barney could always be counted on to do his share. DONALD DON STONER lSophomorel Donny's combined height, ac- curacy, and ability made him an indispensible part of the Mo- hawks, and a constant scoring threat to all opponents. His ver-- satility in shooting, as well as his excellent defensive and offensive play, merited for him the position of city scoring champion. Don is expected to be the mainstay of the 43-44 quintet. THOMAS TOM GEOGHEGAN lSophomorel Jumping from second string Re- serves to second string Varsity, Tom saw a lot of action in the closing contests of the 42-43 sea- son. Tom's outstanding qualities were his ability to keep cool and to sink long shots. Edward Ed Collins Csophomorel displayed an uncanny accuracy in his shooting in several of the games this year.
