From the dawn of the day to the Ves' per's chime. With never a selfish part, He steers our vessel through storm and shine NVith a fatherly love in his heart. Rev. Robert V. O'Connor EIGHT YIEARS :XS IIRINCIIP-Xl, OI: ST, XVlENDIil,lN HIGII SCHOOL 655 S the termination of our high school career looms on the horizon, there 'V likewise comes upon that scene, a figure in sharp relief, imbibing within itself the lessons and admonitions, so ably and so practically taught. That vision cannot and will not grow dim for as we scan the years of our high school life we find indelibly marked upon the record, the kind words of one who taught more by example than by word. It is a familiar page from the story of an unselfish life, on which we read the years of service for Coils favored ones. motivated by principles instilled bv the Creator Himself. That figure standing at the parting of ways is so engraven upon our minds and hearts that he will continue as the years speed on to guide us silently and from the distance. We have taken lessons and with the grace of Cod may we heed them that we may be a credit to the one who labored for us and a glory to the monument of education he lived and prayed for during the past eight years, he has snent in our midst. Wirli an appreciation that is stalwart. deep and true. the class of 1034 re- serves this page of the Froslin for our Principal. the Reverend Robert V. S1,x1i'er7 Good Wishes to the Underclassmen O you do we pass the torch. carry it, guard it and keep its light burning brightly. We, the seniors, are leaving the school and it is in your hands that we leave the activities, honor and glory of the school to pro- long and enlarge. May you take an interest in all things that pertain to high school life as we have tried to do in our four years in St. Wen- delin's. From all indications of this year and previous years you have a deep and undying personal concern in all activities that are un- dertaken by the students of our school. It is a feeling of regret that fills your heart when you are about to leave your Alma Mater but it is also a feeling of pride when you know that your record of school life is honorable and clear. Remember. the name of St. Wendelin high school is a name of great importance in our lives- a name to be cherished through- out the rest of our days on this earth. Whatever you do in your coming years, always hold the honor of your Alma Mater high and never permit anyone to say a word against her. The principle off our school is inscribed on the corner stone of the building4 Teach me goodness, discipline and learning. That is what we are taught and it is up to us to learn it and live it. MONUGRAMS 'I'O BE AW.-XRDIID, Dlil.l, AND SKONIZCKI HAVE BEEN ON STAVF FOR FOUR YEARS X6 - . r . . . . V QQQNE of the outstanding extra-curricular activities of long standing in St. Wendelin's is the school publication, the Wendelette. Staff posi- tions are open to the entire stu-dent body but positions depend upon ability of the student and participation in school activities. Positions may be earnej by working in the campaign for subscriptions, launched each year shortly after the opening of school in September. Any student doing satisfactory work for three consecutive months may likewise earn a place on the staff. Should a member be delinquent in his work on the paper or seriously neglect his duty he is sus- pended. 'l'he Vvlendelette masthead of l'J33-10.24 carries the following names: Edi- tor-in-Cfhief. Joseph Skonecki: Assistant editor. Joseph Dell: Literary editors, Joseph Westhoven. Richard Scharf. Prrdella Foos. Lucille Vilhrandt: Alumni, Anna Nlae Nye. Agnes Lichtle: Mission and Exchange. Dolores Haaser: Cir- culation, Jeanette Huth. Robert Kramb, Beatrice Thom: Sports. Paul Steyer: Business, l.oretta Brickner, John Martin. John Wolph. Kenneth Holman, Rob- ert Huth, ln the point system of giving recognition to staff members Skonecki leads with a total of 3,7110 points for this year. In recognition for student effort in editing the paper a school monogram is awarded to those staff members who have merited the greatest number of points. Last year, on account of financial circumstances no monograms for iournalism were awarded. Ardella Poos and Agnes l,ichtle are the only two members in the high school who possess one but in another three weeks six more students will receive the award for this year. 'l'hr'11tf-S.'c'en ur School Paper The l.lle1thelette Qow HAT joy and eagerness enters into the students' hearts as they hear that the XX'endelette is about to leave the press. lhey make numerous inquiries regarding its arrival so they might be able to scan the many pages of news concerning those in their respective classes. They are placid and peaceful of heart as they get the Xvendelette in their hands. 'lheir restlessness is soothed. Since hard work is connected with any thing fine. it was necessary to choose those who were to take the Wendelette by the hand and take it places. ln or- der to be able to publish the school paper it was necessary. and always is. to procure boosters called subscribers. A few weeks after the opening of the school term an assembly was held in the high school auditorium. After an inspiring appeal made by the principal. Rev. R. V. O'Connor. the students of every class began a scouring party of every nook and corner in Fostoria. The campaign was in full swing. l't wasn't long before the subscriptions begatt to wend their way into the office and before long things began to get mighty hot. Competition was keen. lior three weeks things were more than booming. liinally the campaign closed and after compiling the results the senior class was officially announced the winners. Joseph XVesthoven 4.34 had solicted the largest number of subscriptions. Now that the fray was all over. the task of beginning work on the first issue was seriously taken to heart. All were determined to make it a bigger and better paper, During the last week in October the first issue of the XVendelette made its initial appearance followed by loads of compliments. Before the November issue was begun another assembly was held in the auditorium where the staff for the current year was to be named. After a few announcements liather O'CIonnor divulged the names of those who were to take charge of the Wendelette. lt has always been the ambition of the staff and other students to attain the great pinnacle of honor with their school publication. The Vvlendelttte has been entered into various contests and has proved worthy of its trials in them. In the C, S. P. A. contest the Vvlendelette was judged and given lfirst Class rating last year. But the zenith of its success was reached when word was re- ceived that the Vv'endelette was given All-American honors at the N. S, P. A. contest. The staff adviser and its members felt that their untiring efforts were well rewarded. This year the school paper received second place in the contest sponsored by the Cfolumhia Scholastic Press Association of New York, ln the contest sponsored by the National Scholastic Press Association the Vxlendelette was given liirst Class rating. ln the previous two years the Vylen- delette attained All-American Honors. ln the trophy case there are displayed six medals merited by the Vylendelette in competition with other school pttblications. entered in the Columbia Schol- astic Press Association in New York. A certificate of merit is issued by the Na- tional Scholastic Press Association in Minnesota. I-iflti I-'nit-1 The Mohawks OF THE LEAGUE Oli' SIX NATIONS QUEUHEN our St. Wendelin Nlohawks met the Senecas of Calvert. Tiffin. ' on the basketball court at St. Wendelin's gymnasium. the curtain dropped on the second campaign of competition in the League of Six Nations. The Mohawks had a third place standing in football and a fourth place in basketball. Richard Scharf. the Mohawks captain and stellar forward, was chosen for- ward on the All-Star. League of Six Nations. team. This is the first time the coaches of the l.eague have chosen an All-Star team. STUDENT MANAGERS Q5 TUDENT managers have no easy task. for they must keep count of all K equipment, clean the gym and attend to other numerous duties. This position must be filled by students who are capable of doing the work. This year Father O'Connor appointed Paul Steyer '35 as football manager and Eugene Boyer '30 and Raymond Hark '37 as basketball managers. The graduating athletes offer their thanks to these boys for their splendid effort in trying to make things as easy as possible for them. CHEERLEADER XVhen the Saints' spirits started to lag their loyal followers would raise their courage by cheering them on. Eleanor Sherman '35 was the leader of this cheering and to her the gridmen and the basketball players offer their thanks. At every game whether in the city or out of the city. Eleanor was sure to be there. She won her monogram. but remember. she worked hard. until the very end.
