R Robert Sch IM MACULATE CONC EPTION -maui 3 li K? 'A' L, FGRTY HOURS Prayer and quiet thought are important parts of every man's lifeg they are especially important in the life of a seminarian. ln addition to time spent daily in Chapel at Mass, visit, and rosary, and the half-day of recollection once a month, the students have an annual retreat. This year Reverend Thomas Croak, C.M., was our retreat master. For three days we attended conferences which were aimed at helping us to come to know ourselves and our vocations. There were also discussion groups, and Father was available for interviews. The retreat was an excellent opportunity to grow spiritually and come closer to God. 1 SPIRITUAL EXERCISES ,L , FF 11 D 422, wg- 1 1 'zu 7 Q ,D . wanna offklma Levi. XVL +All. The best place to find out the answers to these questions is at a Vocation Week. During the week the young man lives almost as he would if he went to school at the Cape. A typical day includes morning and night prayers, Mass and Holy Communion, classes, study periods, and recreation. The young man is also given the opportunity to discuss his vocation with an experienced spiritual director. A Vocation Week is a rewarding experience filled with memories that won't be for- gotten. Mr. Firman and Mr. Tacchi, president and vice -president of the Parents' Club, hard at work. On October 6, the annual Open I-louse--Bazaar was held here at Cape. We were blessed with fine weather and had an extremely good crowd. Due to the hard work of the mem- bers of the Parents' Club and the students, the Open House--Bazaar was a tremendous financial and social success. This is just one of the long list of successes made possible by the Parents' Club during the past three and a half years. All of the classrooms have been remodeled, an intercom system has been installed, new desks for the classrooms have been purchased, and the auditorium has been redecorated ,during the time. The students are greatly indebted to the Parents' Club for these things and wish to express our thanks to them for all that they have done for us. M. Under the fine direction of Rev. Donald Berkbigler, C.M., many of the students combine their talents, and through their efforts bring enjoyment and a sense of satis- faction to all. The GLEE CLUB sup- ples the singing for the annual spring musical, Christmas caroling, and other social activities. Also under the direction of Father Berk- bigler, some of the students take time to delve into some of the great musical classics through their participation in I the MUSIC APPRECIATION CLUB. 'T The St. Vincent College Band has performed with the Glee Club on many occasions. They are very versatile, playing to- day's popular hits as well as many old favorites. fleft to rightj James Wierzenski, Larry Slattery, Sfeve Parke, Pianist Mike Zboyovski, jim Porter, Joe Layton, Paul Host- koetter. GUI R CLUB T The GUITAR CLUB was formed this year in order to give the students the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of this popular instrument. 1 42 The RADIO CLUB aids the student in the acquisition of a ham operator's license by developing his skill in copying code and understanding the basics of electronics. Presently, there are six licensees who talk to people throughout the Western Hemisphere. Mr. Philip Leible, the club moderator, has spent much of his time helping the members of this club acquire the skill needed to become licensed op- erators. The CAMERA CLUB has been organized to promote the art of photography here at Cape, and to aid students who wish to acquire this skill. Every month a contest is sponsored by the club to determine the rate of advancement of each member. The members take their own pictures, and then develop and print them in the dark room. Many of the pictures in the yearbook are produced in this manner. 'DIO CLU . Production Staff The primary purpose of our yearbook, THE CAPE, is to tell the story of the school year at St. Vincent's College. Through the yearbook financial drive, we obtain the money which is used to finance the student activities during the following school year. We also hope to promote vocations and encourage young men to come to school here at the Cape. The production is a real team effort. It is made possible only through the combined efforts of every member of the senior class and the photographers. Rev. Oscar Lukefahr, the yearbook moderator, advises the editor and checks all of the pages before they are sent to the publisher. 44 Q ? Spiritually we also began on the 10th vsdth the be- ginning of the special Christmas Novena, which is the highlight of the Christmas preparation here at Cape. Santa Claus arrived a little early this year and gave the students their semester exams on the 19th and 20th.
