b a a o 6 1 4 MKn Everyone knows it is almost impossible to attend SVA a whole year and not visit Mrs. Franklin’s office. Her doors are always open before or after school, at lunch, at break, or anytime in between, if anyone needs counsell¬ ing or just a friend to talk to. She helps seniors with college preparation, juniors with standardized tests, and any one with a problem: academic or emotional. She spends most of her summer planning and preparing the up¬ coming school year. Even in later years she takes a great interest in the students’ progress welfare. Therefore, the staff dedicates the 1987 Vincentian to Mrs. Franklin. Yearbook Staff Qualifications to be a yearbook staff member are a year of yearbook class, obtaining the required amount of Ads, and last but not least, the dedication and perseverance needed to report on Saturday mornings to produce each year’s “masterpiece.” The yearbook staff proudly presents the 1986-1987 edition of the Vincentian. Top row: Angela Cush, Denelle Ware, Andrea Juneau, Elizabeth Lowe, Sharney King, Laura Dean. Margaret Carmody, Staci Smith, Shannon Croaby. Middle row: Kim Maranto. Each one must bring in at least $300 — a difficult task. Everyone who accomplished this feat, and those who tried are fully aware of the heartaches involved. To them go the thanks of all who love their yearbook. Top row: Ashley Jones. Shamey King, Staci Smith, Shannon Croaby, Michelle Moore, Stephanie Walker. Andrea Juneau. Bottom row: Kristen Griffey, Laura Carmody, Laura Dean, Margaret Carmody, Angela Cush, Caren LoUey, Susan Butcher. We talk of choosing our friends; but friends are self-elected. 7 You are always my friend when I am happy or when I am sad when I am all alone or when I am wilh people You are always my friend if I see you today or if 1 see you a year from now if I talk to you today or if I talk to you a year from now You are always my friend 8 and though through the years we will change it doesn ' t matter what I do or it doesn’t matter what you do Throughout our lifetime you are always my friend — Susan Polis Schulz A friend is a present you give yourself. 10 Happiness is time spent with friends. A friend is a person with whom you dare to be yourself. A friend is someone who knows all about you and still likes you. It is through friendship that people excel. The only way to have a friend is to be one. r Friendship is the only cement that will ever hold the world together. Other exciting events included the January picnic with Ixiyola. Movie Night and. of course, the traditional field day. The 1986-87 Student Council truly hopes that your jwhool year was wonderful. Under the guidance of Mr. Bill Oliver, representative of the Taylor Publishing Company, and Sister Rita, the 1987 Vincen¬ tian was laid out. Members discovered that much pa¬ tience, creativity, and cooperation were needed to effec¬ tively plan and execute a well-organized and interesting book. Each girl chose the section she wished to work on. Then, each group decided the details of that section. The Activities Section group directed by Andrea Juneau, attemp¬ ted to give equal representation to each activity. The girls agreed that assembling the members of the various clubs for their group pic¬ tures was the most demanding part of their highly challenging bul en¬ joyable work. Members were: S. King, J. Sarpy. M. McCain, K. Maranto, L. Carmody, and D. Ware. 104 The Personalities Section recognizes SVA students who are outstanding in academic, social, or civic ac¬ tivities. The editor, Susan Butcher effectively worked with the members: E. Scott, T. Matlock, and J. Manco. The Student Life Section attempts to capture the “true student life” at its most essential level. Editor l aura Dean worked steadily with the other members M. Carmody, and M. Thigpen. The Underclassmen Sec¬ tion staff should be familiar with all the students in the school, so as to give them fair representation. Editor Michele Moore and her co- workers K. Bordelon, Court¬ ney Hall, and S. Walker made a brave attempt to fulfill this obligation. The Senior Section has the goal of producing a sec¬ tion which will be most MEaningful to the Seniors for years to come. Editor Shannon Crosby, and fellow-workers W. Holl¬ ingsworth, C. Then she saw hours for “tea girls” — Oh, yes, some had ushered, and even put on pearls. Another card said, “Rose ' Center” At first, bewildered — then ' ding! She remembered that some had gone there to sing. So many cards had new projects on them — Not waitresses at diners, but caring for children at Shriners.
