Sometimes it has seemed to pass by too slowly, but more often it has slipped away from us much too quickly. There is not a single moment in life we can afford to lose. 4 It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of belief, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair. We had nothing before us, we had everything before us. The high school we dreamed of for so long in grade school has taken shape, a part of us that is never to be forgotten. The unity and closeness achieved at Saint Vincent’s will remain in our memories forever. On the road of experience and trying to find my own way, sometimes I wish that I could fly away. When I think that I’m moving, suddenly things stand still. I’m afraid ’cause I think they always will. And I’m looking for space, and to find out who I am, and I’m looking to know and understand. All alone in the universe, sometimes that’s how it seems. Then I look in the center, suddenly everything’s clear. When you’re looking for space, and to find out who you are, when you’re trying to try and reach the stars . . . Live as if you expected to live a hundred years, but might die tomorrow. The greatest loss of time is delay and expectation, which depend upon the future. We let go the present, which we have in our power, and look forward to that which depends upon chance — and so relinquish a certainty for an uncertainty. 7 Every moment of relentless time brings us closer to our goals which are fast becoming reality. There are many roads ahead of us. We have all the decisions of our lives facing us now, and these years of our high school 8 serve as the transition period into adulthood. If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. From the seeds of kindness grow the flowers of love. f Every man has within him the ability to do great things. His touchstone is challenge. No matter what his field of endeavor, a man must measure himself against the demands of his world. To rise to the challenge . . . ultimately this is the reason men build bridges, climb mountains, and do a thousand other things that manifest personal achievement and satisfaction. It has been a year of ups and downs, and we have learned and grown in many areas of life. We have each grown as individuals and we have all grown closer together. 12 The time that we spend here makes us aware of the changes in ourselves, each other, and the world around us. We have each questioned ourselves and come to understand who we are and our purpose a little better. Life is divided into three terms — that which was, which is, and which will be. Let us learn from the past to profit by the present, and from the present to live better for the future. 13 We always have time enough, if we will but use it right. Our education has taught us to benefit from the many opportunities put before us. This process of learning enables us to achieve many heights of success. It is preparing us for our future roles in the world. 14 Do you care what’s happening around you? Do you know the changes when they come? Can you see yourself reflected in the seasons? Can you understand the need to carry on? Riding on the tapestry of all there is to see. So many ways, and oh, so many things. Rejoicing in the differences — there’s no one just like me — yet as different as we are, we’re still the same. 15 What we call destiny comes out of people, not into them from the outside. We have used our time well this year, and though we have much ahead of us, nothing can erase the memories of the times that we have spent here. With memories to look back upon — yesterday is never gone. OPPOSITE PAGE: A special thanks to the 1979 GO-GETTERS: J. Badzik, K. Christ, champion, K. Katzenstein, A. Katzenstein, T. Priest, L. Most of the year they were busily pre¬ paring for their biggest event — The Prom. The first major problem was how to finance it. This was solved by a suc¬ cessful Talent Show presented in January. The Juniors evidenced real school spirit throughout the year. They worked earnestly and long for the “Fun Fest — Italian Style”. They exhibited athletic aggressiveness and mental superiority in the fall Intramurals, winning several events including the first place in softball and the “Most Spirited Class Award”. At Thanksgiving, the Juniors got into the Spirit of Giving and outdistanced the other classes in collecting food for the poor. Once again at Christmas, the Juniors displayed their artistic ability and won the Door Decoration Contest. This year’s Junior Class was certainly one of the most spirited ever! On Field Day, for instance, they did not place in many events but, they won the Good Sportsmanship Award because of their unquenchable Spirit and wonderful Attitude. During the fall Intramurals they achieved an overall award because of their outstanding partic¬ ipation, again proving their great school spirit. Other than awards, much praise was given them for their well planned and beautifully executed Sophomore Retreat Day. The theme, “Friendship” appealed and inspired all. At that time of the year their major interest was getting to know one another and becoming special friends. The retreat was a great help. The Sophomores also had the honor of arranging the Thanksgiving Mass, which resulted in an inspiring and mean¬ ingful celebration. They spent much time planning the Sophomore Social which was given for the Seniors in the spring. The Sophomores were a great class and the year was one to be remembered. Characterized by their “bub- bling-over happiness and their ability to brighten up any day, the Freshmen won a cherished place in the hearts of the upperclassmen. Most Freshmen began the year by joining the Pep Squad, a group which surely did much to inspire Jesuit’s winning season. The Freshmen exhibited great Spirit at the assemblies by trying to out-yell the other classes. This year’s Freshmen quickly and successfully adjusted to their new environment and fitted in easily at St. Vincent’s. They have shown remarkable talents in different areas, some winning events on Field Day, and others doing excellent jobs in school plays and other activities, such as. Fun Fest and the Thanksgiving Food Drive. The Freshmen of ' 79 really seem to have it all together — they are spirited, talented, and always ready to lend a helping hand! Freshmen . . . Around town, the GALS worked on the Poor Man’s Supper, gave a Halloween party for the children at the Shriner’s Hospital, worked at the Red River Revel, and spent many a Saturday morning at the Brook Street picnics. Inspired by their officers: Debbie Cowel, Presi¬ dent; Laura Valerius, Vice-president; Marva Wyatt, Secretary; and Danette Sartori, Treasurer; they worked hard all year on various projects which included: ESP tests for all members who attended the first meeting; the production of some excellent photographic prints; the growing of crystals; the study of alpha brain waves; the experimentation with electronic circuits, and with personality tests. In all, the Science Club has had a lot of fun in their activities and have had a busy and exciting year. M. Wyatt, D. Sartori, D. Cowel, L. She hath no questions, she hath no replies Hushed in and curtained with a blessed dearth Of all that irked her from the hour of birth With stillness that is almost Paradise. Darkness more clear than noonday holdeth her Silence more musical than any song Even her heart has ceased to stir Until the morning of Eternity. Young, Rhonda 85, 144 Zaffater, Paula 85, 110, 123, 136, 144 212 Life, so they say, is hut a game and they let it slip away. Love, like the autumn sun, should he dying, hut it ' s only just begun. 1 road up ahead, we don ' t see just where we ' re going. And all the secrets in the universe whisper in our ears and all the years will come and go and take us always up. We may never pass this way again — 213 Dreams, so they say, are for the fools and they let them drift away. Peace, like the silent dove, should be flyin ' , but it ' s only just begun. Like Columbus in the olden days, we must gather all our courage, sail our ships out on the open sea, cast away our fears, and all the years will come and go and take us up — always up. — We may never pass this way again. . . So, I want to laugh while the laughin ' is easy; I want to cry if it makes it worthwhile. I may never pass this way again, That ' s why I want it with you. — We may never pass this way again. Two hands clasped must part, and a heart too full must hurst. We don ' t want to hold on, hut merely savor the precious moments time has stolen. It will never he the same again. Now we must travel on to that funny world we spoke o f in childhood. You must go your way and we must go ours. But as we leave, apart of you is traveling on with us. Autograph
