VINCENTIAN St. Vincent’s Academy Shreveport, Louisiana Volume XXXI Editor: Lucy Borne Asst. Editors: Gloria Bruce, Elizabeth Scalf Dear students, To most people, this yearbook is just a collection of faces, ordinary faces of ordinary girls. But to those of us who know and love St. Vincent’s, the 1969 Vincentian is more than just a collection of pictures. It is a year of our lives captured between the covers of a book. Yet, as you turn the pages of this book, notice that it also contains memories of another time—the time of the past. It is this past, St. Vincent’s century of existence, and this present, our year of high school, in which we take great pride. The combined efforts of many people have produced this book. You, the students, can truly say that this is your book for your industry, support of the ad campaign, and your cooperation have made the book something special. A warm thanks is extended to Mr. Shorter who came through with pictures and helpful suggestions throughout the year. Another special thank-you goes to Patti Hansen, whose excellent pictures appear many times in the book. How can we express our grati- tude to our sponsor, Sister Rita, who has always been there to guide and help us. We wish to thank all who patronized our book and especially those who have worked so hard on this book—the 1969 Vincentian Staff. On behalf of ourselves and the Vincentian Staff, we hope that this yearbook will be a treasury of those moments that mean something special to you. Sincerely, 2 aluomhe FACULTY «+S FEATURE 5 5 3 iCTI VITIE5 73 5PDRT5 JUNIORS 'SOPHOMORES FRESHMEN 123 From day to day, we pass through the halls of S.V.A. sharing with others our laughter, our success, our dis- appointment, and our sorrow. While we may not realize it, our laughter echoes that of others—others who have come before us. For a century, girls have walked the halls of St. Vin- cent’s—learning, loving, and growing. Many have left St. Vincent’s and have taken their place in the fast-moving world. Some of us are presently attending S.V.A. Yet we, the past and the present, have one important thing in common, we are all a part of St. Vincent’s. With this in mind, the 1969 Vincentian staff proudly dedicates this book to the student body of St. Vincent’s Academy, 1869-1969. mojjowo Lovely Ladies of the Century, 1869-1969! For one hundred years now, girls as feminine as Eve and as witty as Becky Sharp have crossed the threshold of St. Vincent’s Academy. By far the greater majority of these ladies have been gentle in speech, personally attractive and Christian in the true sense of that word. Therefore, let us trace some facts pertinent to this century. In a World that has lost Faith, religion is replaced by work and achievement. Hence, we are falsely judged now, not by what we “ARE” but what we “DO”. So, it might be that each one needs to ask “Who am I?” Would the answer be: We are a syllable in the Word that God spoke in the beginning of eternity; We are a living stone in that Temple whose cornerstone is the never dyii Christ; We are a branch in that Vine God planted in time (1869-1969), set i. hreve- port, that Mystical Body whose Head is “God of God, true God of true God”; We are a miracle in North Louisiana in answer to the prayer of the Daughters of the Cross in America for the last one hundred years. Do our actions subscribe to the above answer? Should it take another miracle to LIVE this, God would call: A legion of angels to destroy a million worlds to bring that grace to be; and that grace would run to us leaping from star to star and from planet to planet to restore our life and our joy; and if the waters of the earth were in the way of receiving the grace humbly asked for, it would surge over the angry tempest and dry it up; and if the mountains complained, they would be cast down, for what we are facing here is the oath of an Eternal and All-powerful God; and furthermore, if an Archangel stood in its way to stop this grace, his sword would melt into nothingness before the overwhelming force of God’s love! Therefore, the hope of the Daughters of the Cross and their students is that the next 100 years may find each one living close to God in TRUST; and may “The Lord watch between me and thee when we are absent one from another.” Gen. 31:49 Devotedly yours in Christ, Daughters of the Cross by Sr. M.
