Miss Cuzzola In the midst of our busy hours, our free hours, our ups and downs there stands one stable and very aware person. One who is always willing to give her time to offer reasonable advise, comfort, and her ear-just to listen to our never ending problems, and in better times-our joyous moments. Even though her stature may be slightg her smile, her heart of gold and gentle manner demand our love and respect. We the class of 1971 hope we can express our appreciation by dedicating this yearbook to Miss Cuzzola. 2 5 JW 'V' Y N x f QWMU5 Sw S ' for S S+ ff Genie Mayersky Student Government President The senior class of 1971- lvliss Katie Sullivan Peggy Marlin Senior Class Advisor Outstanding Student Nurse 4 In September of l968. it all began. What the next three years would bring we did not know. We were a little nervous to be leaving home for the first time, but felt elated to exert our independence. We found ourselves in the midst of so many new people, but soon made so many friends that the tension ceased-we were home Freshman year found us growing up faster than we knew. We all shook together over the prospect of initiations but found our Big Sisters weren't as mean as we thought they would be. We began to feel a part of St. V'S. By Christmas we grew closer when Santa Got Sick and the Nurses Took Over. We probies', learned to study harder than ever before 'til hours we never knew existed for that purpose. We laughed at all the crazy stunts we pulled and cried when our grades were down and we had lost our lates. In spite of this, the big day came-we received our caps and hnally felt like real nurses. Then came our first day on the floor, our first patients, and our tirst injections. The year went fast and the long awaited vacation came and left all too soon-we were now Juniors, upperclassmen at last. A little saddened to find a few of our friends had left, we were determined to go on. We initiated our Little Sisters and watched them grow as we had grown. So very close the beginning ofthe year, halfway through, we Juniors, found ourselves separated. Our specialties had begun. The trials and tribulations of OB, Peds, and Med.-Surg III and IV relaxed a bit when we started planning for Spring Week-end. Then came the Junior-Senior Banquet when we bade good-bye and found it a little strange to have no one to look up to. Another vacation had come and gone and we found it unbelievable that we were finally Seniors. It was a year of mixed emotions-sadness, happiness, apprehen- sion, and excitement. Our specialties were reversed and experience being an impor- tant part and factor, we helped each other through. It seemed funny that this was our last year. It was our last year to sit in the lounges, meet curfews and hear Ten Minutes! . Among the many ulastsi' was one utirstn-we stayed at St. V's for Psych and initiated the new Mental Health Center. After all our rotations were over, we reunited again as Team Leaders-the last leg of our 3 year journey. It was only a short reunion though, for with graduation the Class of 1971 separat- ed-each of us going our separate ways but never forgetting the friends we had made. 5 BARBARA ALLAMON Barb You know! . . . We were excited by the added prestige of being Juniors , while sincerely wondering if we were ready for our new responsibilities. We greeted old friends and warmly wel- comed our little sisters. The pace was set-for tive months we shared classwork. projects and careplans. took tests, and worked together on the lioor. Through tears and laughter our friendship grew stronger. Soon, it was time for our specialties, and though we were separated. the strong bond that existed between us held our class to- gether. Days passed quickly. The time came for us to say goodbye to the seniors, and we felt we had lost something of great value. In a minute. it was all over-our Junior year-'git was the best oftimes-it was the worst oftimesf' 24 RowlS.Marshall, R. Sipos.J.Wujcik. L.Kightlinger.K.Weber, Miller. L. Thompson, L. Muth, C. Initiation meant the Probie Pledge, wastebaskets, and lots ofcandy for the Juniors. We'll never forget our picnic at Glenwood, and the rainy walk up, with many air raids along the way. During initiation we learned what great persons our big sisters are and we appreciate how much they have helped us through our many frustrations. The warmth and friendship ofthe upperclassmen made us feel at home and eased many pressures. Being capped was one ofthe most meaningful experiences in our lives. It made all the long hours ofstudying and hard work worthwhile. It transformed our long awaited dreams into reality. Freshman Editors Pat Stroup and Patty Metz 25 f a xi IJ 26 EW?f fJ Debi Herbel Editor Sandy Etter Finance l Ill! l: F F' Within the pages of this book we have tried to tie the sights, sounds, people, events, and memories into a single tangible segmentg of which we are all a part, and comprise our theme-Friendship. To even try, as we have, to reconstruct the memories of all of our good times in our years at St. Vincent several people were most gen- erous with their time and energy, and exercised a very important quality, patience fwhich was a necessity in regard to, at times, an 'irate' editorl. My heartfelt thanks to all for their devotion and co- operation in our struggle to create a yearbook which is 'just a little bit better'. Most of all I would like to express my appreciation to our advisor, Mrs. Matlak, and my personal tfriends' who worked tire- lessly. Although it was an almost insurmountable task to try to isolate in time, the sights, sounds, and people as we would remember them, we have tried. In the years to come, we will look back with reminis- cence and recall to consciousness only the good times. We, the staff of the 1971 'Vigil', sincerely hope that this book will be the medium with which each and everyone of you can experience nostalgia. EClllOI' 1971 'Vigil' . K. 10 QM --f .
