Morughan Direvtur god knows the secret plan of the things he will do forthe world, using my hand Sr. Marie, school guidance help in choosing our own future Sister Aquinas, O.P.: Physics, Mechanical Drawing, Future Physicians, Guidance. Mr. Ralph Vallecorsa X The guidance department this year is directed by Sister Aquinas, 0.P. Assistant counselors comprising the staff are Sister Monica, Mr. Cistone, and Mr. Vallecorsa. The purpose of guidance counseling is to aid the students in overcoming problems which they confront in their school life. Throughout the year, stu- dents seek the advice of guidance counselors concerning a variety of problems, ranging from scheduling the next year's subjects to processing college applications. The guidance counselors are available for the benefit of the students. Appointments for inter- views can be arranged at the convenience of the student and his particular counselor. Coun- seling provides opportunities for every student to become more aware of' himself and the advantages of his environment. Bri' Q . And though it may sound a little absurd, It concerns the story of Irish pride. Now it seems a certain Junior class Whose place was at St. V. When the Irish opened the '68-'69 basket- ball season with losses to North and Bar- berton, doubts arose about the rebirth of St. V. A victory the next week over Can- ton Central Catholic began a six game winning streak which took St. V. into the Beacon ,Iournalls top ten poll for the first time in recent years. Victories were scored over South, Hoban, Buchtel, Kent Roosevelt, and Mansfield St. Peter. A strong, fast Central team snapped the win- ning streak. The Irish slowed Central's fast break with steady rebounding, but were outscored by the '69 District Champions. In the second half of the season, the Irish stood 6-3, beating Hoban a second time, but suffering a disastrous weekend with losses to Cuyahoga Falls and Firestone, both Dis- trict powers. A nervous St. V. team lost its first tournament game to Barbeiton. Junior Tom Kelly led in scoring and re- bounding. Dave Ochsenhirt placed second in both departments. Kelly was named to the All-City second team and received an All-District Honorable Mention. Ox re- ceived an All-City mention.
