, ,em,g. V Lb-. Q- V- CLASS PROPHECY: JANUARY 1948 LYING from planet to planet can hecome quite horing, even it 9 1 'ian one is traveling hy Rocket-ship. That is why l am seeking diver- gaf Qyyjffl sion hy heading the nose oi my ship towards the Planet Earth. To me from the height ot l,OO0,000 leet, the contours of the earth appear to he tar from inviting. Nevertheless, not to he discouraged so easily, l turn to my radar machine, adjust and focus it, and, lo and hehold, l see,-no, this is not New York. There are orange groves, also a great mass of water, hluer than any l have ever seen. Vvhy, it must he Calitornial This ohservation is confirmed as l scoop low and see a street sign,- Hollywood and Palm. There on the corner, in neat hlack and white letters is the announcement: Hvvorks of Art hy Elizaheth. Joan Fidlerf' So Betty has really entered the field of painting in which she is most talented. Flying low over Mission Boulevard, l spy a shop ol exclusive wearing apparel. The establishment, l soon discover, is owned hy Eileen McHugh. Inside, my attention is drawn to a dark green velvet gown heing exhihited hy Frances Noud. Vvatching the proceedings with much interest is Ann Marie Gunther, the designer. l gather from the remarks of her press agent, Alice Vvalsh, that this group is having much success in setting up on the west coast a fashion center similar to that which can he found in their own New York City. Looking in the opposite direction, I see the local movie where Vilma Zavacky, my former classmate, is starring in Hllomance Amid the Rosesf, written hy her chum, Rosemarie Kozick. Vvell, l should have known they would remain inseparalale. If l have found out how seven ol my school friends have progressed in California, surely l shall he ahle to note the activities of all my former classmates. So, turning my ship eastward at the rate of l,00fl miles a minute, I arrive in the Empire State heiore you can say St. Vincent Ferrer. Upon reaching Manhattan, l ily low over Fifth Avenue. Here l see that my past opinions have loeen confirmed-Josephine Ryan has always heen clever and intelligent, so it is no surprise to me to find the main store in this section is now known as Ryans Its manager is none other than the capahle Bea Cahill. Entering the store are Josephine Nlulcahy and Joan Knudsen, and there on the third finger, left hand, of hoth girls are fyou guessed itll diamond rings ot exceptional heauty. lt,s good to see the girls' smiling iaceswa sure sign of their inner happiness. From listening to their conversation hy means of short wave, l lind that Mrs. Walter Vvehrli is the owner oi a suhurloan ice-cream parlor.

But, wait, these girls arenst the entire class. So, intent on discovering the happenings ot the rest, I head toward the East Side. Vvhile passing Madison Avenue, a display ot neon lights directs my attention to the tact that Mary Dillon and Dory Kelly are co-starring in Peggy Siralcovslcyis Broadway production, Hswallows Fall Hardf, It is good to lcnow that this play holds a very high rating on the White List of the legitimate stage. But what is this? Why, itis Patricia Connors stepping trom a limou- sine to enter a Park Avenue apartment. So she has succeeded in one ot her earlier amloitions,-to he ahle to travel in comtort and style-fa tar cry from those memorable hus rides between Springfield Gardens and the city. Continuing in an easterly direction, l realize that not only Fifth, Madison, and Parlc Avenues have heen talcen over lay St. Vincent Ferrer's Alumnae of 1948, hut Lexington, also. Cn the northwest corner ot 64th Street can he seen the comhined oilice ot O'Hara and Treiher, Notary Puhlic and C.P.A. respectively. And isnit that Kay Flaherty walking along the street, carrying a hlue hat-loox? l always suspected that she would hecome estahlished as a model, with those lovely chestnut loclcs. Heading farther East towards Long island, I find that Virginia Fee and Betty Caddigan have gone into partnership, forming a cluh ot Hap- pily Married Couples. There are still two classmates whom l canit seem to locate-Marie McMahon and Margaret O'Brien. By adjusting my television set at Maspeth and Jaclcson Heights, I piclc up this last trail. Vvhat an unex- pected pleasurel For the heam has led me to a Novitiate ot the Qrder of St. Dominic in the Mid-West. Dwelling for a few minutes on the peace- ful scene loelow in the garden ot the postulants, l turn my airship to my place of habitation with the hope that Godys graces and hlessings will thus continue to he with all my former classmates on their successful journey through lite.
