I ,Q-B ' I rub'-, , 1 5' I o i 4 I o ' O M , C 4 s inter U ' 9 Q I Q . WINTER IN SCLANC COUNTY is heralded by threatening showers. In the north east, Travis Air Base hums with activity and it seems the air of brisk efficiency is carried on the winds to the I-lilltopg for rain or shine the Saint's activities continue. Everyone - well, almost everyone - becomes engrossed in language, science and history, punctuated by basketball, or a class play, or a choral presentation, and freguently all three. Still there are the holidays, to be followed by snow trips, class rings, and the new semester. This is the point of no return, when fresh- men and seniors alike contemplate past failures and tri- umphs and confidently start anew. Although our winters often resemble spring, often this past winter murky channel waters were blent with a somber sky, eliminating the horizon to create a monotone of ash. A blanketing mist enveloped the landscape and time re- versed itself till no longer we, but Padre Solano, beheld this solitude. This is the land of his convert, Chief Solano, and of General Vallejo. Time made memories of the first capitol. It immortalized the romance of Concepcion Arguello and the founding of our Dominican nuns in California. It whispers Suisun - West Wind. As the winter sun returns to pierce the haze, what shadows might we cast, armed as we are with Truth? Perhaps we too, will some day be part of Solano County's legends. or 1, 5' Patricia Desmond '58 X 4 x SOLANO COUNTY IN WINTER GRAY ' Michael Hines, president, Block SV .
