NATIONAL ENGINEERING HONORARY SPEECH SOCIETY The Michigan Zeta Chapter of Sigma Rho Tau was founded at the University of Detroit in 1934 to promote speech activities in the Engineering College and to reward those who exhibit excellence in the field. Members are chosen for their achievement in the field of speech and high scholastic standing. Intercollegiate debates stimulate interest among the students and at the same time train its members in public speaking. Social activities of the chapter include the Harvest Ball held in November and a Christmas party. Phi chapter of Theta Phi Alpha was founded at this University in February, 1951. Theta Phi Alpha is the oldest and largest national Catholic sorority and the only one holding membership in the National Pan- Hellenic Organization. The sorority was founded at the University of Michigan in 1912 by the late Bishop Edward M. Kelly. Theta Phi Alpha has for its aim the fostering of leadership among Catholic women. The sorority presents its annual award, the Sienna Medal, to the outstanding Catholic woman of the year. They also co-sponsor the annual Christmas Ball. 222 Bernie L. Bock Sally J.
