BASEBALL SEASON 1947 With a record of seven wins, three losses, and one tie, St. Thomas completed another winning season. Opening their season against Hononegah, they were held runless and hit- less. They played home and home series with Hononegah, Capron, Harlem, Durand, East Rockford, and West Rockford. At bat for the Tommies, Don Leber, James Lichtfuss, and Paul Glavin produced much of the power. Fielding averages of Tom Kelley, Paul Colloton, and James Col- ombi were outstanding. Tom Kelley, Pat Sreenan, and Don Licht- fuss labored on the mound and performed well. Much of the Work behind the plate was done by Paul Colloton. The infield had Turk Skurski and Jim Colombi at third base, Paul Glavin at short, Walt Seikerman and Dick Lazzerini at sec- ond, with Jack Rafferty and Jack Noe handling the Hrst base duties. The Tommies' fly chasers were Joe Fene- lon, Don Leber, Jim Smith, and Ronnie Ruel. The foul ball chasers were Joe Bowen and jack Enright. Kneeling: Kelley, beickerman, HI. FROSH-SOPH BASKETBALL For the second consecutive year Coach Robert Wings Phillip has started from scratch and molded a team really capable and worthy of wearing the purple and White. Forming a nucleus around Tony Enright, a refugee from the intramurals, and Billy Hills, a transfer from Lincoln Junior High School, Mr. Phillip composed a team that won fourteen games and lost eight. Among the highlights of the season were . . . . the defeat of Marmion . . . . the invita- tion to the Belvidere tournament .... the close game with West High .... three vic- tories over Harlem ....
