Not one of you is the same person you were then. You have grown physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. Your relationships with each other and with God have deepened. Although these growing years have not brought you to perfection, each stage of growth brings more answers — and new questions. The answers you have already received have helped. You have learned that you can both give and receive help, so that each of you may understand to the fullest what you need to do to become good people. The time has come to look at some implications of this learning. To do this you have to ask some more questions. You might begin with such questions as these: Who am 1 to myself? What do I owe myself? What am I doing with what has is happening to me? Do I recognize my personal responsibility for the nourishment and growth of that most important part of me — the part nobody else can be responsible for — my self respect, my sense of dignity, my integrity? 1 suggest that you see your future as a questing one, a searching deep within yourselves, always remembering that you are not alone even there. The Lord in each of you is waiting, and wanting, to be asked to give you the strength and support you need. And now, resolve to look inside yourselves for the answer to a single question: I tow can I better assume personal responsibility for my own actions, take pride in what 1 do, and deepen my determination to become a decent Christian person? Shakespeare gives you a good place to begin your search. Ponder his words as you seek your own ansers. “This above all: to thine own self be true And it must follow as the night the day Thou cans't not then be false to any man.” J yj. j . 22 TORCH OF HONOR nnuutfy the faculty of Saint Thomas decides by vote, one outstanding boy and girl from the Senior Class who excels in the categories of Christian witness, leadership and scholarship. This year the Torch of Honor was passed to Joseph jurinko and nne Pavlicek. Joe's leadership was clearly evident through the 3 years he served as a student government representative. He was also active in sports and lieljwd the Tomcats in both basketball and baseball during his 4 years at St. Thomas. tine’s club activities were centered in the computer, mission and folk clubs. She was a RETROSPECT member for 2 years and Co-editor of the yearbook in her Senior year. Anne also served as v ice-president of the National Honor Soviet). Before RETROSPECT reaches you, ideas are formed . . . plans are made . . . pictures are taken . . . and printed . . . layouts designed . . . artwork sketched, words are gathered to make copy .. . nerves shot . . . tears shed ... all for the sake of the deadline. But when the yearbook room lies dark and quiet, we can stand back, look at what we have done, and say, “We did it and we are proud!” FOLK GROUP Under the direction of Mr. illadio, folk group works hard throughout the year. For Halloween the club staged an unusual form of entertainment, a radio play, “Sorry, Wrong Number”, which they pre-taped and broadcast during homeroom. A recent addition to activities this year, the Art Club, founded by Sr. Josephine, aims to make students more aware of art and its role in their everyday-lives. REACH OUT As a club based on helping others and “reaching out” to those in need, this group's activities included a food drive during the month of November. Last spring, for eight long hours, students got together to raise money, dance and have a good time in the Second Annual Cystic Fibrosis Superdance. This year, new heights of talent were revealed to us. Ken Riling with a medley of Christmas songs, took third place. Bob Young and Lenny Pekor, a two man rock band, took second place and Michele Moore came in first with her own musical literary composition “Miss Pearl”.
