Dear Graduate (and all you young people who care), The future world needs you and depends on you. We, your elders, leave you a divided world that is not admirable. Be not an island unto yourself, but seek advice and learn from others. You must be freer than your elders were. You must return to the Gospels of love and the brotherhood of the Early Church. You must take risks and set new precedents. You must not be afraid of trying what has never been tried before; otherwise, you shall never be creative. You must not be afraid of authority. Youth, not authority, is the source of creativity. You must be proud, bold, and free if you wish to create. When finally authority intervenes, it is ordinarily more noble to obey than to disobey; and to obey with love, even if one feels that right is on one’s side, and even if authority has been employed unfairly. Halted in one direction, the energy of the Gospels seeks out another crevice for its growth. The mustard seed, finally, breaks its pots-patience is on the side of the Lord. Those motivated by self-love give up. Please do not give up in this century of blood and heroism. If ever some of us desired to live in a time when we might give our lives to justice, ours is such a time. Let us hope that many from among vou join with your brothers and sisters-join the few-who work always and everywhere for justice, peace, and eternal happiness.
