POWDER-PUFF PANIC . . . 7 RETROSPECT SSSB Pastor Kru-ml (Counselor THE REVEREND FRANCIS SHIELDS A Memory Teacher MUSINGS ON THE DEATH OF FATHER SHIELDS A small, white-haired old man died on January 6, 1968. He was Father Francis R. Shields, pastor, Saint Thomas Church, Braddock, Pennsylvania. But to remember him as pastor would be like remembering the ocean by isolating a single droplet. He was a shepherd, known to and knowing his flock in a world where impersonality is the watchword. He was a teacher who needed no books, no exercise in semantics. We were all his pupils, and all we needed to do was observe. His counsel was always warm, human, and to the point — much like himself. Friendship gained in richness of definition because of Father Shields.
