Oke Ok oma Ionian 1951 ST. THOMAS HIGH SCHOOL Braddock, Pennsylvania The Dedication O gentle, little Majesty, in Your resplendent robe and crown, You rule the land and sea, heaven and earth. In that tiny Baby Hand You hold the world and all its destinies. Sweet King of Kings, we bow before Your Throne and humbly invoke You to let us share in Your blessings. As Crusaders for Christ, we, the Class of 1951, desire to spread Your Holy Name. Give us the courage to face the evils of today unflinchingly. To You, in Your splendor as Christ the King, we humbly dedicate our yearbook. JJeJ omadonian Rcture in your mind a young person who is an active participant in all scholastic activities; one who is respected by the two most vital organs of the school, the faculty and the student body. If to this delightful picture you add the fact that this young person is a frequent communicant, you have in your mind a picture of our Ideal Thomasonian. Jhe (drudaderA Jdail iJheir rjLeach erA As our day of graduation draws near, we approach a crossroads in our lives where we must decide which path God has chosen for us. Many before us have been faced with this same decision, some of whom have answered the wondrous call of God. From among these, God has sent to us His dearest to instruct and to guide us during our short time at Saint Thomas. Our Sisters have been not only our teachers but our friends as well, sharing with us many of our joys and sorrows. To them we owe a great amount of our success and happiness during the years we have spent under their guidance. Their good example and valuable advice shall strengthen us now and in the years to come. To them, our teachers, the chosen ones of God, we extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation for their kindness, leadership, and understanding. In leaving Saint Thomas we take with us a host of cherished memories, and fortified by our Catholic doctrine we look forward hopefully to the future. In all sincerity, we thank you, our dear friends, the Dominican Sisters. isi°nS' IU' Ar‘ reu, fCo) ano- h mes tcc futL pJ° Ph , . As timid freshmen we were ready to begin some of the happiest days of our lives. We settled down to our lessons and before we knew it, Initiation Day had arrived. This was our chance to prove to our teachers and classmates that we were all good sports. We did! After mid-term exams, the days flew quickly. What happy days they were, too! Soon it was time for April showers and along with the season came our spring dance. We had so much fun making and cutting out those tiny umbrellas to decorate the hall. Before we knew it, it was May, and so, on a beautiful day we set forth on our first South Park picnic. Final exams came all too soon, after which we scampered away for summer vacation, never once forgetting the splendid guidance of our Sisters during our first year at St. Thomas High. ♦ ♦ ♦ Once more it was September. But now we were sophomores! Full of vim and vigor, we were ready to start another wonderful year at St. Thomas. Once again laughter was heard throughout the halls. Initiation Day was here, but now it was a different story. Who, but we, the class of ’51, could have thought up such ridiculous things for the new freshmen to do? Our sophomore year was full of activity and surprises. We were well represented at the Annual Latin Fair that year. Remember the Miss Venus Contest? Four of our girls were attendants to our candidate for Miss Venus, Mary Jean DeLuca. Our boys came through with flying colors! Yes, they topped the section. May came bringing with it the always eventful South Park picnic. With raincoats and umbrellas, we boarded the busses that Thursday morning. We shall never forget that picnic for it was there that we lost one of our most loved graduates of 1948. Thomas “Ackie” Adams was killed in an automobile accident on the way to the park. Sadness cloaked our departure from school that year. 46 r oLane At last we were upperclassmen. What a thrilling feeling! There was much hustle and bustle that year. As juniors, we had a great deal to do. After acting as hosts and hostesses at the Thanksgiving Dance, we opened a campaign for the tickets for our Prom Benefit Dance. January came around, and through the wonderful cooperation of our teachers and all the classes, the dance was a great success. The day we had looked forward to all through the year finally came. April 21, 1950, our Prom! Oh, how happy we were as we stopped at the convent that evening. There was a twinkle in the eye of every girl and boy. All agreed it was the best prom ever held at St. Thomas. Late springtime found us again gleefully preparing for the annual South Park picnic. Cramming for final exams next became our most absorbing occupation. Then followed in rapid succession, distribution of yearbooks, the North Park picnic where we were guests of the seniors, and last stacking our books away for the good old summertime. ♦ ♦ ♦ Seniors! We were pleasantly surprised to learn that we were to spend our Senior year in our homerooms of the year before, 306 and 307. We have spent many happy hours in those classrooms. They are even more precious to us now because we realize that our days at St. Thomas are passing swiftly. It’s Thursday afternoon and there’s Jimmie Currie giving drum lessons in the auditorium. We’re still running down those stairs faster than ever to catch the 55 and the Corey Avenue Car. What would we have done without them? We now look back tenderly upon our days spent at St. Thomas —days we shall cherish forever. Full of merriment, companionship, joys and sorrows, they will remain in our hearts forever. We have but one more day to look forward to—graduation! That marks the day when we shall set forth on another journey toward our goal, God. As we quietly walk up the aisle to assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, we shall be a class better prepared to cope with the obstacles that may confront us after we leave the sheltering arms of our Alma Mater, dear old St. Thomas. 47 CYCLE -Sjyrincftune brings f rom 55 une ‘‘When girls were beautiful and boys were knightly.” “On with the dance 'Would a weiner roast do this to you?” tUjaiuL Strike up the band” “We have movies, too” arm aaao s h i s -7 Jnroucfh.
