Oh yes, the very best it is We always have confessed. S-T. TH OM A S H-I-G-H—you see, Spells out for us the school that stands For love and loyalty. For the studies that we learn St. Thomas is on top: Religion, Science, Language, Math And basketball and hop. And even after we have left Our Alma Mater dear, Our hearts will always have these thoughts, Our lips will form this cheer: Chorus.- Dear old St. Thomas, We ll e’er be true. Dear old St. Thomas, We pledge our los e to you. Boys—What do we think of St. Thomas? Girls—Let us go—East and West! Boys—What do we think of St. Thomas? Girls—North and South—it is the best! Girls—Come, let us cheer for St. Thomas, Boys—Come, let us cheer for St. Thomas, All —Blue and gold are colors that we love. Dear old St. Thomas, We ll e’er be true. Dear old St. Thomas, We pledge our love to you. With sincere appreciation we, the Seniors ol ic)42, dedicate the Thomasonian to our parents, who, through sacrifice, self-denial and love, have provided us with a splendid Catholic education, and have brought this edition of the year book to a successful climax. Marine Corps PRAYER FOR OUR MARINE Dear Lord, Thou permittest the dewdrops rest Upon the flowers in a heavenly crest: Your creatures humbly give Thee praise, Filled with ecstasy at Thy protective gaze;— So please, God, on this momentous occasion Guide our Marine in his untiring oblation; Make sure as he goes, o’er land and sea All perils he’ll face will be watched by Thee; I beg Thee, help him in his plight, “For God and Country” he’ll reach grand heights; Grant him a sale, swift ordeal and then Bon voyage, Oh Lord! Amen. THE THOMASON!AN CLASS HISTORY In order that the good deeds of the Seniors of 1942 “may not he interred with their bones, we hereby set before the world a record of the happy events of our four years at St. Thomas High School. In September, 1938, a group of Freshmen from the various parishes in the valley, met for the first time, eager to begin their climb toward fame—graduation. We were shy and timid, but a little hopeful that we might get a chance to show our loyalty, and to prove dial we could be a credit to the school. The Seniors welcomed us by giving an initiation party in our honor. Even if we were only Freshmen, and didn’t know what was going on about us, we were good sports about it. As Sophomores we received the greatest surprise of our lives. The boys won a football game. A free day was declared and die high school rejoiced. Flic Hallowe’en Party, October 28. was an enjoyable affair, and our Card Party was a financial help. Juniors, at last! As upperclassmen, we occupied one-half of the senior Hoor. We cooperated with the Seniors in the activities of the year, the student council and the Forensic Debating League. The big event of the year, the Prom, was everything that we had hoped for. It was a good year for the athletes. Both the boys and girls realized their ambitions and knew that their practice had not been in vain. Seniors! ! ! Honorable and dignified, we strove diligently to set a good example in word and work to the underclassmen. We Idled the official positions of the various school organizations. War was declared and Thomas Dalton, sincere and loyal, joined the Marines. Many privileges were merited this year. Our last activity, the Senior Hop, was a gala affair. Then came the glorious day, June 7—Graduation Day. The diplomas received were the licenses with which we went into the world —alone. Should we say entirely alone? Not quite, for with us go the loving memories of our high school life and the hope that we will continue Pro Deo ct Patria.’' 0 WO HdO JUNIOR CLASS lor Row—left to right—Patrick McDonough, Francis Mannion. THE THOMASON IAN -(-)ctivitiei ) Boys' Basketball Although the victories of our basketball squad did not quite equal its defeats, Saint Thomas can well be proud of the good sportsmanship shown by the Tomcats on the basketball court. In twenty-two games, with some of the finest teams of the district, the doormen succeeded in establishing a record of nine wins and thirteen losses. Each contest from beginning to end was packed with thrills. The senior members of the varsity. John Gribben, John Mannion, Richard Dowd and Red Devine, captain, who have worn the blue and gold for the last time, earnestly hope that the players will continue to show the same spiril that has characterized St. Thomas teams in the past. Each year the St. Thomas sextet competes for the coveted first place in the Catholic League. This season the team was not entirely successful in all its engagements but the players have learned that school spirit, cooperation, and fair play mean much more in the game than the huge “V” for Victory. This spirit of 1942 is due in great part to the generous coaching of Miss Peggy Brallier. The splendid work of Mary Louise Costello, forward; Eileen Dawson and Patricia Scuffle, guards; will be greatly missed by their teammates next season. I or Row left to light Man Gordon (Manager).
