NHIIllNHl H0 UR SUCIHY Outstanding SCHOLARSHIP LEADERSHIP CHARACTER SERVICE AL, KP B SUDALITY Rev. Frank Holland, member of the Society ofJesus and teacher at the University of Detroit, is the Sodality moderator there. Having the ex- perience of running a Sodality, Fr. Holland has graciously given his time to helping in the direction of our highschoolSodality. The following are some of the ideas he left with us after his address to us during Catholic Youth Week. The Sodality can be Dyn a mite! It depends on how you run it. The difficulty to- day is that we actually don't think we need God very badly as high school Students. We get our three meals and we get along from day to day. If we would stop and think, we would realize that we couldn't even walk a step if God didn't give us the power. God has givenus everything we have. Nothing in ourlife should be more important than Jesus Christ. If thereis, then there's something wrong with us. We're not good Catholics, Christ just doesn't live in us. If we don't take God into our life now, someday we will come crawling on our hands and knees and beg that He at least look at us. We will beg for Him! We should find Him now! We, unlike thousands, have the opportunity of receiving the sacraments, the greatest help in the world. It is our life and at the end of it God won't ask us if we had fun, a good job, or made a lot of money. There's only one thing that matters--are you in the state of grace or not? We are all mediocre! We haven't got the guts to live according to God's plan but we run our life according to our likes and dislikes. Our sodality should rock the school and it would if we had enough men with guts to work for Christ. Talk about changing the world! Let's change our- selves into Christ first. We can't give what we don't have. Look at Christ on the cross! We put Him there and we've got to take Him off. We've got the ,fx grace nowg we're get- i ting the chanceg give Jesus Christ a chance in our life now. 1 ,Rfb ! 1 Carol Ann Kopitzki, So- dality prefect, offers a crown of roses to the Blessed Mother on be- half of all the students during May Crowning services. Robert Bretz During the holy season of Lent, on March 2.2, 23, and 24, our high school students were prepared for Christ's sac- rifice on the Cross through a retreat. Here to help the students make a successful retreat, was Father Robert Bretz. A classmate of our own Father Ted, Father Bretz first attended St. B e r n a r d Sc h o ol. He completed his studies at Sacred Heart Seminary and Mount St. Mary's, Norwood, Ohio. Ordained in 1940, he has served as assistant at St. Rose, St. Boniface, and is now stationed at St. Veronica. A capable retreat master, he has also conducted Pre-Cana and Cana conferences and lectured at the CYO, and sponsored Courtship and Marriage courses. Because of the inspiring talks given by Father Bretz, a successful retreat was made by many. He made the students realize that this retreat would determine their spiritual life in the future they could not remain the same but would be better or wrose. Through his talk on vocations: many were able to decide whether their place in life would be that of a religious, a parent, or a' single person. He cleared up many matters concerning the sacraments and prayer, and was available at every spare moment for any personal problems. Therefore, Father Bretz is to be thanked for bringing the students nearer to God and eternal' salvation. cl DRAMATICS CLUB This year a new club has been organized at St. Thomas High. The Dramatics Club--with M. Kurrie as president, C. Hettinger as vice president, D. Ajdowski as secretary and F.
