And with it went the Dragons' dreams of winning Catholic League Second Division and state Class C titles. St. Charles fell on its face be- fore an inspired St. Thomas eleven. 33 to 19. St. Thomas went into the game a three-touchdovsm underdog, hav- ing won three of six games in league play this season. 8 t ll RON NOVAK, a. 190-pound junior fullback, sparked the up- set. In the first period he slanted off tackle for a 20-yard touch- down run. With the score tied, 13 to 13, Novak blocked a St. Charles punt early in the third quarter, scooped up the ball and swept 25 yards for another tally. Then he put out the Dra- gons' fire completely when he intercepted a Jim Morey pass and sprinted 30 yards for the touchdown that proved to be the clincher. Sunday night at Mack Inter- Early in the first period. St. Thomas gave an indication of its upset plans when Sophomore Ray Dempz passed to Ray Korotko for a 40-yard scoring play. The Blue Streaks' final tally came in the fourth period on Gordon Ziemianski's 25-yard end sweep. Upper right: Nowak and Man- dziara move in to clown a St. Charles back in the season's big upset.
