A HISTORY OF SAINT THERESA SCHOOL The history of Saint Theresa School dates back to the Fall of 1925 when Saint .loseph's Academy opened its doors to resident and day students on both elementary and secondary school level. The high school was chartered under the State of Florida and affiliated with the Catholic University of America. During the second school year, Reverend Thomas Comber was named to form the Parish of the Little Flower. Father Comber, since named Monsignor, has served as a truly inspiring guide to the many students and graduates of Saint Theresa High School. Enrollment steadily increased and in 1932 Saint Joseph's Acade- my became a unit of the parish open to day students only and the name was changed to Saint Theresa's School. In that same year the science laboratory and library were equipped, a business education department was added, and the first bus was purchased for stu- dents living beyond walking distance. During the following years a cafeteria was added and the kindergarten building was built which included a play area and equipment for the kindergarten children. With the completion of a beautiful new church in 1952, the audi- torium above the old church was remodeled and five classrooms were equipped to accommodate the mounting enrollment. Students continued to flock to Saint Theresa's School so in the summer of 1955 four more classrooms were built on the grounds. This year, with the closing of Saints Peter and Paul High School, Saint Theresa's sister-school, the need for a Central Catholic High School is further emphasized. We, the class of 1957, in view of the expected increased enrollment, look forward to the completion of the proposed building. We will always remain loyal to Saint Theresa's School, our alma mater, even though in the future she may have to give way to a Central Catholic High School, just as many years ago Saint .loseph's Academy gave way to Saint There- sa's High School.
