The high school was chartered under the State of Florida and affiliated with the Catholic University of America. During the second school year, Reverend Thomas Comber was named to form the Parish of the Little Flower. Father Comber, since named Monsignor, has served as a truly inspiring guide to the many students and graduates of Saint Theresa High School. Enrollment steadily increased and in 1932 Saint Joseph's Acade- my became a unit of the parish open to day students only and the name was changed to Saint Theresa's School. In that same year the science laboratory and library were equipped, a business education department was added, and the first bus was purchased for stu- dents living beyond walking distance. During the following years a cafeteria was added and the kindergarten building was built which included a play area and equipment for the kindergarten children. With the completion of a beautiful new church in 1952, the audi- torium above the old church was remodeled and five classrooms were equipped to accommodate the mounting enrollment. Students continued to flock to Saint Theresa's School so in the summer of 1955 four more classrooms were built on the grounds. This year, with the closing of Saints Peter and Paul High School, Saint Theresa's sister-school, the need for a Central Catholic High School is further emphasized. We, the class of 1957, in view of the expected increased enrollment, look forward to the completion of the proposed building. We will always remain loyal to Saint Theresa's School, our alma mater, even though in the future she may have to give way to a Central Catholic High School, just as many years ago Saint .loseph's Academy gave way to Saint There- sa's High School. Our class colors are purple and silver. The violet stands for faithfulness, purity, and modesty. It is our desire to imitate these virtues by patterning our future lives on the life of our Lady. ln addition, we shall attempt to practice the qualities of loyalty, honor, honesty, and truth throughout our lives. We chose purple, the color of royalty, to acknowledge the kingship of God and its guiding of our lives. ln choosing silver, the color of value, importance, and helpfulness, we wish to acknowledge the im- portance of our parents and teachers to us and thank them for their help and advice. CLASS MOTTO We, the Senior Class of l957, have chosen as our motto the words, Not finished, iust begun. High School life is, in a sense, an ending. When we leave Saint Theresa we are leaving behind our friends, our teachers, and familiar surroundings. These, together with the knowledge we have acquired here, will serve as the foundation of our future lives. With such a foundaa tion we can truly look forward to the future with a calmness and sense of direction and continue to strive toward the goals we have set for ourselves in this life and toward our happiness in the next. Dorothy Cronin MOTHER BELOVED The following song written by Father Daniel A. Lord, S.J., expresses our love and devotion to our Blessed Mother better Than we could ex- press them. Therefore, to Our Lady, the Queen of Peace and the Patron- ess ofthe Senior Class, we say with Father Lord, .loin your hands, loyal bands, While we pledge one another Unity and fealty To our Queen and our Mother. One our faith, One our love, One our Leader and Lord. One our aim, One hope above, One united accord. CHORUS Mother beloved of God and of men, Here at your feet, Faithful we meet, Comrades of Mary, Redeemed by your Son, Keep us, who love you, ln all things one. Torn in heart, flung apart, ln the world that denies you. Enmity and rivalry Fill the souls that despise you. We who kneel o'er us feel The sweet warmth of your smile. Grant us courage, hearts of steel, Facing triumph or trial. Coach CHET DEMBOWSKI 1 I St. Theresa went beyond ex- pectations and downed a rug- ged Pine Crest High, 31-7, in their first game of the season. Taking advantage of the Fort Lauderdale team's fumbles, Ellison and Di Camillo had a field day passing the goal line, with O'Hanion making a spectacular diving catch in the end zone. JIM ELLISON JACK ELLISON St. Theresa continued on its high scoring campaign as it whisked by the Shamrocks of St. Patrick's, 46-6, Touch- down seemed to be the word of the day for the Musketeers as they rode the high winds past the ill-fated Miami Beach team. In an important Conference game, the Musketeers took another step towards the crown in defeating St. Ann's, 20-7. With Ellison again mak- ing two touchdowns and pass- ing for another, the Musket- eers looked as if they might have their first Catholic Con- ference title in the bag. ALBERT CARRICARTE ty E L A s T r FRANK DI CAMILLO 'A WARLAND GRIFFITH A long bus ride and a powerful Key West High team proved to be too much for the Musketeers as they put up a futile bout, only to lose, 20-O. Finding the ground work too slow QB Ellison took to the air, only to find the Conchs greedily intercepting. This was our first defeat of the season. St, Theresa rambled on as they proved the critics to be wrong by flattening the Hia- leah eleven, 13-O. Smith and Ellison used the last quarter to score against the Thoro- breds in an exciting game, one that was an important win for Coach Homko. RON KNOWLES JOHN MACKIN The Musketeers won their first Catholic Conference Crown by defeating Central Catholic, 19-13. ln an evenly- matched game the Raiders came from behind to tie up the game, 13-13. But sparked by HB Jack Ellison and the desire for the title, St. Theresa scored in the dying minutes to give shaken Mr. Homko his long-awaited Conference trophy. RAY KNOWLES TIM REILLY The Musketeers closed the season in grand style by whipping the Golden Rams of St. Anastasia, 58-7. The Homecoming crowd at Comb- er Field saw the second team in fine condition for the first time, while they alternated with the first team, who made the touchdowns almost faster than the score-keepers could tally them. Belle GIade's Rams gave St. Theresa their second de- feat in the hardest-fought game of the season. Barely able to move against the tight opposing defenses, neither team knew whose game it was until the closing whistle. lt looked as if either team might explode any second, but the Rams held their seven point lead until the end.
