In the beginning there was a void. A vast space filled only with dreams and expec- tations. There are many such beginnings in a person's life. Freshmen begin the school year with a similar emptiness. They do not know what high school will be like and can only be open to the experiences it will bring. As a freshman begins, so does her locker. The $pace starts as nothing but with each passing day new items are added. The locker becomes a partial scrapbook of her life. Schedules, gym clothes, textbooks, pictures of rock stars-AII show bits of her newness and uniqueness. As the student matures, the contents of her locker change. The gym clothes disappear, the rock bands change and the locker becomes not so novel. Papers are thrown as they are received-ring order forms, college applications, graduation announcements. The neatness is no longer°necessary. Each scrap represents a cherished memory and nothing is destroyed. These scraps represent a past for some and a promise of the future for others. The senior locker is the experience along with the end realization of remembered humble beginnings. 6
