Perhaps through the pages of this volume of the Corona, we can portray to others and can keep for our- s el ve s some of our cherished memories. We present it, not as a gr eat literary product, but simply as a picture of happy years at Dear Old St. Stephen's High School. It is our wish that the joy r e c eived from this book in later years will repay us for our time spent toward mak- ing it an invaluable possession. Follow us now as we go through the Gate of Life, for, as our motto portrays, Success Awaits at Labor's Gates. We have gradually reached the entrance to The Gates of Success, beginning our journey four years ago as we entered St. Stephen's High. As Freshmen we eagerly enter- ed the first gate in unison, altho ugh we were divided into four sections, the boy s being guided by Mrs. Gordon Deal and Mr. D. S. Clarkeg the girls, by Mrs. T. R. Bain and Mr. Gorman Ledbetter. Soon we were taught the responsi- bilities of being high school students, and we settled down to work. We advanced as Sophomores to the second gate. Being counseled by Miss Colleen Painter, Miss Georgia Sherrill, and Mr. D. S. Clarke, who faithfully trained us for our next year, we went through this gate. Then we progressed to the third gate which holds many memories under the leadership of Mrs. Earl Yount and Mr. Calvin Ledbetter. After many laborious hours we staged a successful Irish banquet at the Gates of Killarney. As we reached the Senior gate we were proudly handed the key which m a de our long-awaited dreams come true. At this exciting gate we we re met by Mrs. T. M. Purkey and Mrs. R. G. Mauney. And now the gates swing wideg music fills the air and a voice seems to say: Well done. With mixed emotions we go through these gates into our different walks of life, know- ing that we have done many small things in the past,We are lo okin g forward to the accomplishing of greater things in the future, as we shall walk daily through many more gates until finally we enter the Gate to Life Eternal. Our beloved colorss- yellow and gray Will carry mem'ries to 1ife's close. Then as we face each future day, We'll be led by our yellow rose. Dear parents, teachers, leaders, all, You've helped us along the way. We pray that God will keep you, When we have gone away. We'd like to express our gratitude, But so much do we owe.
