I The first game of the season was played on Friday afternoon, September 15, on the S.M.A. field, The Spartans' first touchdown came in the lst quarter when Heldenfels pitched out to Wagstaff, who ran 70 yards to paydirt. The extra point attempt by Helden- fels was also good. St. Stephen's counted good again in the second quarter when Pratt passed to Shepperd for a 50 yard touchdown. In the third quarter the Spartans had a tough break when Shepperd, the first string end, tore the ligaments in his knee. San Marcos was very lucky in that they got both of their touchdowns in 45 seconds, due to Spartan fumbles. II This was the first time that St. Stephens had ever competed with T.M.I. The game was played at St. Stephen's at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon. Even though the Panthers had the edge in weight, reserves, and overconfidence, it didn't seem to help them too much. The Spartans didn't start rolling until the third quarter when Wagstaff took a pitchout and ran 60 yards to make it falmostj. He made it two plays later. The second score came late in the third quarter when Pratt intercepted a Panther pass and ran 17 yards to paydirt.
