THE STAN-EM - A Volumne XVIII Published By The Senior Class of 1949 St. Stanislaus High School Detroit ll, Michigan Dedication TO OUR PASTOR AND ASSISTANTS Fon THE GIFT OF COUNSEL TO OUR TEACHERS F on TI-IE GIFT OF SERVICE TO OUR PARENTS F on THE GIFT OF SACRIFICE GRATEFUL CLASS OF '49 i N - ji' Fore ord Backward, turn backward, O time in Thy flight! The River Time, a brimming stream, blends with the ocean of years with a faultless rhythm and a musical rhyme. As we, the class of '49, climb the lofty Bridge of Future, we pause to reverse the course of Time. XVe extend our deep gratitude to the guiding light of our education and the nucleus of our school-The Administration and The Faculty. Through their benevolent guidance, we have attained the first glory of any school-a line of ideal graduates-gentlemen and gentlewomen with character, personality and apostolic zeal, who will be of energetic will, socially successful, and a real influence. The thoughts and advice of our superiors will always remain in our memory. NVe, The CHALLENGERS, -a name suitably applied to the Class of '49-accept the summons of the obscured, confused world. Armed with the weapons of truth, justice and righteousness, we enter the sphere of perplexity with a steadfast, reliant stride. We stand on the shore of verity, unflinched by the subversive principles of the communists pervading the universe. God, our Mighty Fortress, is our only refuge and strength. We have dedicated our loyalty to God- Christ is our center, we are Christo- centricf' We shall endeavor to satiate the earth with God-fearing men. Our aim, to Christify the secular world, shall encounter many obstacles, but in the end truth will emerge triumphant in this chaotic strife. Our exit from S.S. High, a significant event, is designated to reap bountiful fruitsg our confidence in God is overwhelming. Our reiterating echo shall constantly envelop the hallowed hall of our Alma Mater- If God be with us, who can go against us? Time is the most precious gift of God to men. The CHALLENGERS chose the hands of the clock as the supporting theme of the 1949 STAN-EM to stress its importance in the field of education. The hands of the clock move with rhythmic precision, arousing various emotions, for- TIME is Too slow for those who wait Too swift for those who fear Too long for those who grieve Too short for those who rejoice But for those who love TIME is ETERNITY ADMINISTRATION FACULTY SENIORS UNDERCLASSMEN KNOWLEDGE ACTIVITIES SPORTS AWARDS PARENTS ADVERTISERS Contents Hands at the HELM Guiding Hands Busy Hands Mariy Hands First Hand Trying Hands Hand in Hand In the palm of lhe Hand Loving Hands On Hand ,mf -J ,. xg! t -fs, W 1 ,mi E Q 3 .... 3 5 4 6,2 ww ww, X 'X . ,. 1 5 X . . . l o1' so the whole round earth is every way Bound by the gold clmins about the feet of God. Tiptoed in from St. Haycinth. VC' .ttf f . l ' 1 , mr Nmnnn, - -'--- ---- -7- --- My Jem Qaacluala It is always with mixed feelings, that I say my parting word to the Graduates. I rejoice, that another group of boys and girls whom we received as callow youths, are now leaving the portals of St. Stanislaus High-prepared to meet the vicissitudes of life. But, I also grow pensive, when they reach the turning point in their lives, when as St. Paul says They put away the things of a child and launch into the world on their own. I then post the questiong Have we, to whom they have been entrusted, acquitted ourselves creditably? Only their future lives can answer that satisfactorily. I believe however-that under our guidance and direction, you have become heirs of a resplendent Catholic and American heritage, and are ready to live it and transmit it to others. I was particularly arrested by the apt motto you have chosen: CHRIST IS OUR CENTER-WE ARE CHRISTO-CENTRIC. In these days of all absorbing secularism, we must stress an all absorbing Christ-Centrism. There is only one antidote for secular- ism, and that is Christo-Centrism. The more the world tries to banish Christ from home, school, education, economic life, world neighborliness-the more you as Christophers-Christ bearers-must place Him there. But before you can Hinstaurare omnia in Christo, restore all things in Christ-you must restore Christ in your own mind, heart, and soul. Then and only then you will do all things Per Ipsum, cum Ipso et in Ipso -by Him, with Him, in Him. May the spirit of Love of Christ guide you during the years to come. May the spirit of Commemoration Day be the spirit of your Graduation Day.
