Jim Sfwf vi- Great rejoicing has come to the hearts of all Carmelites and friends of Carmel for the ancient friary at Aylesford is once more their own. This medieval shrine is a land- mark in the history of the Carmelite Order for it was the first friary built in Europe in 1242 under the leadership of St. Simon Stock the Prior General of the Order. It remained a Carmelite house until the time of Henry VIII when it was conflscated by For these many years Aylesford has had a varied non-Catholic history. Now at last the unceasing prayers of the Fathers have been answered and we shall rejoice with them in thanksgiving when the good Fathers hold their official re-opening and dedication on july 16 1951. We feel it particularly appropriate to close this Szockade of 1950 dedicated to the medieval ideal with this brief but sincere tribute to Aylesford the home of St. Simon Stock our beloved patron. i 1 1 7 1 'V r, 1 1 ' I A i I 1 IM , Ml Thomas Cromwell in the name of the king. , W , , 1! , vi f mms ci!
