AT THE PL ATE AND ON THE MOUND McCa1thy style On May 15th our booming bats demolished Browne and Nichols 14 -1- as the band wagon rolled on Big Bros pitched flawless ball striklng out elextn and scat termg a few scratch h1ts The 1 ame was ours all the way as we scored two runs in the first and four ln the second Browne and Nlchols eked out two runs in the fifth on two errors and one each 1n the first and fourth Bros was the star of the day leadlnf our offense with three singles as well as rendering a superlatlxe pitching performance Bill Cosgroxe and the man behind the mask each got two one of Paul s being a booming four bagger The big bats thundered again on Mav 17th sounding the death knell of another xahant nine This time the drubbxng was at Mlddlesex with a final result of 12 2 Larry Cummings showed the C oncord boys dazzling speed and rare pltchmg form as he blazed his fast ones past elghteen belligerent batters He struck out the Slde in the first, fourth, and Hfth Only one scratch hit kept him from turning 1n the first no hits, one of them a double VV1thout a doubt this was the finest exhibition of baseball displayed by any player all season Arrows tallied four times in the fifth twice in the seventh and three times each in the eight and nmth Middlesex s only two runs came ln the fifth on a walk an error and their only hit The foul lead off men Duel Cosgroxc Brosnahan and Carev each spanked three safeties 1m Brosnahan likewise turned in a sterling pitching performance on May 19th against Huntington on the home grounds Again and again thc horsehlde felt the impact of Red and Black bats so much so that when the dust cleared we were on the heaxy end of a 19 2 score Bros fanned four and scattered seven hits He alded and abetted his own cause by slapping three hits himself as did Dow ney Fay and Cosgrove One of Blll s was a triple The Old Red head McCarty smote a couple Huntington s runs came in the thlrd and fifth cantos Our VlCtOlX string was dCC1ilX ely snapped fixe days later at Exeter where we succumbed to our hosts 25 6 The game was a comedy of errors from the start and the less said about it the better fl'79l v ' ' f x ' Y ' - , .
