THyotUa, St. 7Q ce Academy 'l incemtei.. Indiana We dedicate this book of memories to our ever-faithful Alumnae whose un- tiring efforts down through the years have been a guiding light. Their zealous and earnest endeavors on behalf of their Alma Mater have given us an irresistible inspiration and a firm determination to carry on in their traditional manner the wonderful work that was begun 66 years ago. It is our sincere desire that we, the Class of Nineteen Hundred and Fifty-five, may humbly take our place and add our names to the roll of noble Alumnae who have helped perpetuate St. Rose Academy. As we open our memory book, we see thirty-five bright, innocent faces at the door of S. R. A. on September 4, 1951. Little did we know the inspiration we would experience during that short but happy year. Our first inspiration for a truly Christian character came from Sister Ann Monica. After becoming legal members of the school in virtue of the Senior Initiation Party and active members of the Sodality of Our Lady, we were ready to grow spiritually, intellectually, and socially. Turning to Chapter Two, we see the loyal Sophomores, spurred on by Sister Mary Celine, striving to bring devotion to Our Lady of Pro- vidence into our homes. In addition to our eager participation in school activities shown in Freshman Year, we now must shoulder the respon- sibilities of planned activities of our own. Nearly halfway through our book we pause to reminisce on our jolly Junior days. You can imagine the excitement we felt as we prepared for the Witches' Frolic in which our marble-eyed witch took the spotlight. The solemnity and beauty of St. Catherine's Day were cast as a mem- orable occasion. When we received our class rings, we grew in the spirit of true class union. Looking at the World through Rose-Colored Glasses has left us with a momory of hard work, patience, and kind- ness on the part of Sister Ann Camillus. This rosy night is vivid among our remembrances of Junior Year. As we turn to the fourth and final chapter of our memory book, we find sadness entering for the first time. This is not because we are un- happy with what has been accomplished, but we wish we had more time before the final curtain is drawn in May, 1955. On Foundation Day we said a special Thank you to Sister Mary Elvire and to the Sisters of Providence for their guidance during our high school career. The in- spiration we have received during the past four years from our priests, teachers, parents, classmates, and dear old S. R. A. itself has made us anticipate with eagerness the time when we will at last be members of the Alumnae and take our place on life's various highways. Our years at St. Rose have meant more to us than we now realize, but as we go through life the inspiration of the years of yesterday will shine through and lead us to the doorway of tomorrow, the doorway of eternal happiness. On the twenty-second day of October each year, however, the Sisters and pupils in their schools express their heart- felt appreciation to Mother Theodore Guerin who founded the congregation of the Sisters of Providence in America in 1840. The establishment of a com- munity in this wilderness which is now called Indiana was an exceptionally hard task for six inexperienced French Sisters from Ruille, the motherhouse of the American foundation. As Seniors we had the privilege of commemorating Foundation Day by presenting a series of tableaux in which the life of Mother Theodore was seen to parallel the events portrayed by the Five Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary.
