Deery and Reverend Henry Doll, we wish to express our sincere thanks for the friendship they have shown us and for the inspiring spiritual help they have given us during our four years at St. Rose Academy. We realize that words can never pay the debt of gratitude we owe to them, but we pledge our loyalty in the hope that this will repay them, in part, for their interest in us and their untiring efforts to help us. y jet lion a( . j'Ion or Societ No honor conferred by the school excels that represented by the National Honor Society. The four cardinal principles of the Society are Character, Service, Leadership, and Scholarship. Character is the force in one man which distinguishes him from others. Service is the rendering of any possible assistance to our fellowmen. Leader- ship is the ability to go ahead when others hesitate. It is the power to lead others in the way of better things. Scholarship means a love of learning. A real student knows the benefits of a cultivated mind. Light is the Symbol of Truth is the motto of the National Honor Society. The light of truth must never grow dim but must grow brighter and brighter. At the Induction Ceremony on February 17, Patricia Murphy and Deborah O Connor, Senior Honor Society members, gave the torch to Jane Acobert, Carol Brouillette, Adaline Green, Mary Ann Kemp, Carolyn Leech, Dorothy Sauer, Mary Lee Speth, and Mary Ann Ueding. We were met by Sister Thomas Aquinas, our Fresh- man advisor, and through her wise guidance and the able leadership of our class officers we began slowly the hard trek along the road which would eventually lead to a polished stardom. Early in our first year we were taught the practical mean- ing of the words of our class song-- We are the Freshmen staunch and true. In May, united as a class in lifelong friendships, we ascended the second step and a keen observer could see a little gold beneath the tarnish. After summer vacation we returned with confidence to St. Rose as loyal Sophomores. The enthusiasm of our advisor. Sister Annunciata, spurred us to a successful year. We battled valiantly to win the roof drive only to be defeated on the last day by the Freshmen. Our member was still thirty-three. We had lost one star but gained another to ascend with us to the third rung to the tune of upperclassmen. We could have been lost in the hazardous pitfalls of our Junior Year but with Sister Ann Camillus' help we plunged through the many activities --St. Catherine's Day, Magazine Drive, Class Rings, Sport Dance, and the Prom. Two new stars from,St. Mary-of-the-Woods were added to our class , but during the year wedding bells began to ring. Our Junior Year was over, and thirty Seniors moved up to the fourth step. An eager yet hesitant spirit characterized that move. At last we had reached our Senior Year--the beginning of the end. As Seniors, Sister Mary Elvire made us realize that in order to reach our goal we must be intelligent, Catholic women. In September we happily received the new Freshmen at the traditional welcome party. We joined the Sisters in celebrating Foundation Day. Again in November we took part in the festivities of St. Catherine's Day Day. Invitations, name cards, retreat, sport dance, year book, Alumnae dinner dance. Mother's Day tea, Senophs party, and the prom with all its gaiety brought us quickly to that cherished graduation ceremony in the Old Cathedral. Now we stand on the threshold of the many steps that are to follow, the steps by which we are to ascend to the enjoyment and happiness of our Eternal Home, there to shine as bright stars for all eternity. .
