Guest Lectures To Pep History Classes Mr. James Misiora holds a B.S. from C.S.U. and is the head hockey coach. Ss. 3- ig I.. Ex 'I - X , ji Mike Petrosius sharpens his map skills during his history class. Now in his second year as Chairman of the Social Studies Department, Mr. James Misiora is very happy to see that students are showing an interest in the elective courses. The sociology and criminal justice course was a great success, and I'd like to see that same type of enthusiasm for other electives as well, he said. Latin American studies, psychology, and several other elec- tives were offered last year, but only one course pulled in enough interested students to make a class. Mr. Misiora feels that by the time the present freshmen are juniors numbers will be large enough to support more electives. Aside from trying to pep up his department's curricu- lum, Mr. Misiora is emphasizing the importance of guest lectures and is encouraging teachers to use audio-visual equipment which includes film strips, slides, and maps. I want the students to be able to relate history to real jobs that people have that call for a knowledge of social studies. As for the audio-visual equipment, it livens the class up a little more, adds another learning dimension to the lecture material and re-emphasizes what has been taught in class. Mr. Misiora would like to extend the lectures to the whole student body and is hopeful that one of the presidential candidates will give a speech here next year. In an effort to help defray the cost of the textbooks, the department has received books from the state and is using them in some classes. Not every class could get a free book so I decided that the ones which would be most beneficial to the students would be the books' to choosef' At the present time the juniors are using McGruder's American History, which the Chairman feels is the bible of American History, and the senior honor class is using Living American Documents. Mr. Thomas Nall holds a B.A. from Carroll College and is the head basketball coach.
