His duties include scheduling the classes, assigning the courses, taking care of aca- demic programs, and counselling the students. The efficiency with which the school program is carried out is due in great part to his capable work. Page 12 Our Counsellor . . . Krzanowski, a mern- ber of the senior class passed into eternal life following a short illness. Tom was born on November 19, 1941, the son of Peter and Marie Krzanowski. He graduated from St. Joseph's grammar school located at 48th St. and Hermitage Ave. Besides his parents, Tom leaves his brother Ralph, who is a freshman at St. Rita. Tom radiated life. During his three and one halt years at St. Rita, Tom injected life and happiness into classes and extracurricular activities. When we think of the things Torn did around school - a fine student, a basketball manager, in the glee club, and on the track team - we realize that the things he did were ordinary. The way he did them made Tom a special kind of man, admired and loved by all who knew him. He will always be with us in spirit as an inspiration and a reminder that great men live forever. E IOR D Y 0F RECOLLECTl0 The day of spiritual concenTraTion Tor seniors was held on October 211th under The direcTion of The Very Reverend John Seary, O.S.A., Provincial of The Augustinian province of Our MoTher of Good Coun- sel. Father's inspired preaching nnade The day of prayer a pleasant and Thought-provoking one. On This day The seniors received The scapular oT Our Mother of Good Counsel, which officially afhli- ates Them spiritually with The Order of ST. Augustine. Its pages over the years reflect the dynamic growth and spirit of our school during years of war and peace, prosper- ity and depression. It is our per- manent historical record. lts pur- pose is to foster school spirit, build a closer relationship be- tween students and faculty. It has served as the medium for the literary and artistic talent of our student body. Traditionally the Ritan editorial staff has been chosen on the basis of outstand- ing literary and scholastic com- petence. Today its former mem- bers are found on the staffs of all metropolitan papers and many national publications. In order to develope a more democratic spirit, to allow the students to share some ofthe responsibility in the running ot a school, and to have a group who can voice their opinions and suggestions for the student body, most high schools have a stu- dent council. At St. Rita's its members comprise the presidents ot the senior, iunior, and sopho- more classes and the presidents ot each se:tion of these classes. Monthly meetings are held at which school problems are discussed and ways by which students can help with the operation of the school are planned. One of the organizations which has enjoyed the fastest rate of growth is the St. Rita Glee Club. In four short years under the direction of Fr. Van der Beek, the membership has reached nearly a hun- dred. They have acquired their own uniforms, which are white iackets and red skirts for the girls and blue iackets with white trousers for the boys. An embroidered R on the lapel identifies the school. They now hold their own Spring Revue, whose theme this year is Far Away Places . The Club has performed for various councils of the Knights of Columbus and different other organizations, and have been invited to sing at the opening of NCEA's yearly convention. The Musical Staff , an organization of parents and friends, deserves much credit for their assist- ance in making the Glee Club a well established and successful organization. Under the direction ot Mr. Sitterle and Fr. John P. Murphy, O.S.A., the members ot the club met twice a week in room 7 at 8:l5 . At these morning sessions they learned principles of debating and had a chance to put these principles into practice. This year our students debated two main issues: education and unionism. The number ot members ot the Club almost doubled with the coming ot J. Sokol, K. Beilke, J. Bell, E. Dudelc, J. Gabay, J. Galiardi, L, Rakunas, and J. Heilgeist. In this year's Chicago Catholic Forensic League competition, members ot our Senior and Jun- ior teams took part in many debates and also in tvvo Student Congresses. Our debators vvon many impressive victories in the numerous tournaments they attended. Our departing seniors will be greatly missed next year, but their spirit and accomplishments will not be forgotten. P. Bradley, A. Cutilletta, A. Jenkins Mr. Arthur Sifferle, Fr. Eight schools participated in the league, which was divided into two sections, North and South. When the Varsity started in the season, the team looked like a great club. However, inexperi- ence proved that the team was not the best, but it was not outclassed by any team. The club fin- ished in third place in the South Section. The pitching staff, consisting mostly of sophomores and iuniors, were Alex MacFarlane, John Lang, Dennis Manning, Joe Porrevecchio, and William Smith.
