Welcome to ST. REGIS FALLS CENTRAL SCHOOL ST. REGIS FALLS, NY Contents Seniors 5 Classes 12 Sports 20 Activities 34 Faculty 43 Elementary 50 Advertisers 68 E A R B O 0 K D E D 1 C A T I O N For the past 6 years you have been a good friend and a great teacher to us. You never failed to help us when we most needed it, and you were always smiling. In sports you tried your best to make us succeed. You never failed to encourage us throughout the years. In appreciation for your being such a great teacher and friend at S.R.F., the class of ‘1985’ would like to dedicate our yearbook to you — Mr. Gary South. When you came to our school nine years ago we knew immediately that you were more than just a good teacher. We came to know you as a “Good Friend.” As years have past, you have seen many classes come and go, but we ask of you to remember us with great regard. We feel we have learned a great deal from you and would like to thank you, “Radar,” for us- ing your great sense of humor to help us along the way. You’ve been a great teacher, Friend, and Senior Advisor. Therefore, we the senior class of “85,” would like to thank you by dedicating our yearbook to you, Mr. Roger Keating. 2 SPECIAL RECOGNITION Your teching techniques were very helpful and your food days with exotic foods made school something to look for- ward to, and very exciting. You helped students make the adjustment from elementary grades to High School by your strict disciplinary rules and regulations. You have been helping students like us for 21 years. You also helped organize the elementary Olympic week which provided us with much more ambition when looking at tough situations. You will be looked upon as one of our finest and most dedicated teachers in the history of our school. We deeply regret losing a fine teacher like you. Special Recognition — Bill Brown We, the class of ’85, would like to acknowledge you as more than a good friend. We have always been fascinated by your sense of humor and your stories of how you tamed the outdoors. You’re a great sportsman and an all around good guy. We would like to take this opportuni- ty to thank you for all the times that you have cleaned up after us without ever receiving a thanks. BOYS SOCCER The Boys’ Soccer Team and I will share good memories of a good offensive game against Madrid, where we came from behind 3-0 to tie them 5-5. This was a real team effort. In our game against Colton, Rob Prior, scored 4 goals, 3 assisted by Mike Dumas. In our second game against Parishville-Hopkiton, who defeated us earlier 10-2, we kept the score 3-0. The defense, led by our goalie, George Morelli, a first season player, showed goal improvement and team work. Thank you and GOOD LUCK to the team of “85!!!” Yours in Soccer, Mr. Roman Nahirnak GIRLS SOCCER This year’s girls soccer team was not as successful as we would have liked, but we found ourselves in a lot of close matches. We outplayed our opponent in several games and still came up short. We will sadly miss Michelle Smith and Diane Joannette, but a fine nucleus of players remain for the “85” season. GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR! Mrs. Goeke Soccer 1st team all Northern George Morelli, Honorable Mention: Rob Prior, Mike Dumas, Dave Morelli. 22 VOLLEYBALL The 1983 Varsity volleyball team was young and inexperienced. We gave every team a good match and ended up with 4 wins and 4 losses. Showing much improve- ment over the course of the season proved successful for the first round of sectional play. After losing to Mor- ristown in regular season play, SRF returned the favor in the sectionals, by scores of 15-9, 9-15,7-15,15-6. The last match of the season for the Saints ended in the hands of the N.A.C. Champs. Undefeated Knox Memorial. The little Saints worked hard to achieve a fine 5-3 record resulting in the third place. With more hard work and determination their squad will be competitive and unstoppable next year. GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR! 1 23 N- p (6 H-h-o h-h-p rt- Gfi p 24 Row One: G. Winters, C. Kelly, R. To the Class of ’85: The word “commencement” often causes some confusion. We know that the word “commencement” comes from the word “commence,” which means to start or to begin. Yet, you will also be graduating, which means conclusion. How can an ending also be a beginning? The answer is obvious. Graduation is an ending, a conclusion of a process you began at least thirteen years go. A process call ed formal education. Throughout that time you have worked and studied and strived for this year. But your “Commencement Exercise” is also the beginning. The thirteen years of formal education prepare you to begin a new life. After this year you are no longer a student in our school, but rather a citizen of the world. You do not end your life as a student as much as you begin your life as an adult in an adult world. With this new position comes many new rights and privileges. But with these also come awesome responsibilities and demands. You stand at a gateway. On the other side is the world with all it offers and demands. As you say farewell to us, you say hello to tomorrow. Grab hold of that tomorrow, and use what you have learned in the past to build it into a bright and shining future. It is my hope and prayer that each of you will find your pathway from SRF to be straight and true and that the destination you choose will be golden with happiness and alive with success. Michael Hunsinger Superintendent of Schools TO THE CLASS OF 1985: Each of you has certain strengths and weaknesses as do all mortals. The secret to success is to capitalize on your strengths while improving those areas where you realize you are weak. Don’t dwell on the negative aspects of life or yourself — accen- tuate the positive. Look forward with a positive attitude toward a better tomorrow and a bright future. You’ll Find it. I wish each of you continued success, good health and hap- piness. Please contemplate this poem by Robert E. Farley as you enter this new phase of your lives. THINKING HAPPINESS Think of the things that make you happy. Not the things that make you sad; Think of the fine and true in mankind, Not its sordid side and bad; Think of the blessings that surround you, Not the ones that are denied; Think of the virtues of your friendships. Not the weak and faulty side; Think of the gains you’ve made in business. Not the losses you’ve incurred; Think of the good of you that’s spoken, Not some cruel, hostile word; Think of the days of health and pleasure. Not the days of woe and pain; Think of the days alive with sunshine, Not the dismal days of rain; Think of the hopes that lie before you, Not the waste that lies behind; Think of the treasures you have gathered, Not the ones you’ve failed to find; Think of the service you may render Not of serving self alone; Think of the happiness of others, And in this you’ll find your own! — Robert E.
