The seniors are appreciative of the time and effort the Board of Education has put into the planning of the fine educa- tional facilities which we have enjoyed. We are also grateful for the extension of the senior trip, since the class had already put much time and effort into securing funds for this activity. The Board of Education did “listen” to the voice of the students. Clerk of the Board MR. JOHN TRIPENY

A Tribute Mrs. Nelda Young Smith For many years Mrs. Smith had been an inspiration to her English students and at the time of her death her brother. Stanley, wrote a fitting tribute for the Siren, excerpts of which appear below: Mrs. Smith had two consuming interests; her family and her profession - education. From her childhood she directed her interests, activities, and training toward the goal of educating students. While her chosen specialization was English; it was simply a means to an end. Through this discipline, she could best relate morality, love of mankind and apprecia- tion of beauty - her fundamental goals of education. These concepts were her philosophy, her way of life, and the ideals she installed in the lives of students. The accomplishments of her students during the past 22 years can and should be a living memorial to this teacher.” An equally consuming interest was her family and her home, as it concerned her family. Mrs. Smith related her enjoyment of antiques, summer camp, College Club and Church to fulfilling this passion to reach and practice her philosophy of life within her family. The most worthwhile Tribute to Mrs. Smith would be that her students would deve- lop a philosophy which would follow her own.
