THE REGENT The World Is All Before Me Foreword Please accept our version of what happened at S.R.F. in 1910. This is the way we saw and lived it. As you turn the pages think of the time, the energy and the fun that went into this production. This book enables us to reminisce over experiences which are frozen in time.” We now invite you to travel with us through the Regent. BRUCE E. JACKSON Dedication - and as an outdoorsman. Mr. Jackson as a familyman - One of the reasons for educating the youth of today is to ready them for the responsibilities of a changing world. We, the seniors, feel that a teacher who has stirred a new interest in the math and science field, which is so essential in today’s world; and also found time to be a hunting and fishing companion to many of us, as well as a Scout Master, and an involved village citizen is most worthy of an honor. We the Senior Class of 1970 proudly and affectionately dedicate our Yearbook, the REGENT to you, Mr. Jackson. Administration MR. J. SWEENEY MR. J. SHARPSTENE MRS. H. BESAW High School Principal Supv. Principal El. Principal Board of Board of Education President . MR. ORTON JOHNSON Education FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: Mr. David Vanderwalker, Mr. James Down, Mr. Homer Susice, Mr. Royal Phillips, Mr. Venzo Langdon. The seniors are appreciative of the time and effort the Board of Education has put into the planning of the fine educa- tional facilities which we have enjoyed. We are also grateful for the extension of the senior trip, since the class had already put much time and effort into securing funds for this activity. The Board of Education did “listen” to the voice of the students. Clerk of the Board MR. JOHN TRIPENY A Tribute Mrs. Nelda Young Smith For many years Mrs. Smith had been an inspiration to her English students and at the time of her death her brother. Stanley, wrote a fitting tribute for the Siren, excerpts of which appear below: Mrs. Smith had two consuming interests; her family and her profession - education. From her childhood she directed her interests, activities, and training toward the goal of educating students. While her chosen specialization was English; it was simply a means to an end. Through this discipline, she could best relate morality, love of mankind and apprecia- tion of beauty - her fundamental goals of education. These concepts were her philosophy, her way of life, and the ideals she installed in the lives of students. The accomplishments of her students during the past 22 years can and should be a living memorial to this teacher.” An equally consuming interest was her family and her home, as it concerned her family. Mrs. Smith related her enjoyment of antiques, summer camp, College Club and Church to fulfilling this passion to reach and practice her philosophy of life within her family. The most worthwhile Tribute to Mrs. Smith would be that her students would deve- lop a philosophy which would follow her own. RIGHT - MRS. L. PERRY - Music MIDDLE LEFT - MRS. M. LEMIEUX - Nurse MRS. The Saints showed an impressive improvement in their third year of League play, producing a 2-8 record. The prospects for coming years are very good, and the players are fast learning that experience is the most valuable asset. A season of teamwork and all-out hustle provided an exciting and worthwhile experience. Baseball 1969 The Saints again added to their trophy case as they captured the St. Lawrence Valley League Crown with a 9-3 record, and went on to the Section X finals and produced a 3-2 decision over previously unbeaten Clifton-Fine. The Saints marched to victory behind the fine pitching of Jim Shanty and Bruce Bailey and the asset of a strong hitting and well rounded defensive club. The Senior members visited the Parliament in Ottawa where they saw Prime Minister Trudeau and dined at the famous Chateau Laurier. The Seniors also saw a performance of the Russian Cossocks given in Malone. To become a member of this select group, a student must maintain an average of at least 85% he must also show the qualities of character, service and leadership. S. E.A. Millie Catura Lloyd Mayville Gordon Barkman, Photographer Board of Education Faculty The Class of 1970 wishes to express their grati- tude to the person who has done the most for the seniors. During the last two years she has been our class advisor. Without her guidance and help, our Junior and Senior years would not have been nearly so enjoyable. Although we had our dis- agreements we realize that what she told us was sound advice and was for the good of the class. Her supply of energy and ideas gave us ambition to accomplish the multitude of things which must be dealt with in our Senior year. We therefore thank Mrs. Dorothy Mendelsohn for her guidance, co-operation, and understanding. - The Seniors Graduation June 1969
