Masquerade She's telling him A rrHeroes Just Happen” There never was such an unlikely boy as Joe Thomson. He was always outgrow- ing his clothes and the hat he wore gave him a very vacuous look. He had been ex- pelled from some of the finest schools through no fault of his own. He had no parents and had moved about from relative to relative. Finally, he landed at Ivy Lane High School where, because of simi- lar names, he was mistaken for a football hero. As Flash Thomson, he wins the prettiest girl in school, and makes a touchdown that wins an important game. He becomes the school idol. When Joe is being honored at a dance, the real Flash turns up and Joe is exposed, so he once more contemplates life at a new school. Joe has so endeared himself to the school that a member of the school board insists Joe is truly a hero. How Joe finds a niche for himself, and wins a better nickname than the real hero and how he finds happiness along with the students and faculty in a little red school forms the end of this comedy. ROW II: Allan Tower, Johnnie Sharpstene, Roger Parks, Wayne Niles, Allen Cummings. The 1958 Varsity baseball team enjoyed a high- ly successful season under Coach Danforth. Behind the masterful pitching of Allan Cummings, the Golden Saints won their five league games and ad- vanced to the finals before losing to Brushton-Moira by a 3-2 margin. This was a shocking defeat to the Falls because of the fact they had beaten Brushton- Moira previously, a team that won 3 games, com- pared to 2 losses. In the first game of the playoffs, St. Regis Falls trampled Salmon-River 15-0. Donnie Parks, Allan Cummings and Dave Converse were the leading hit- ters with averages over 350. Great play by Gary Winters, Wayne Niles, Roger Parks, and many others sparked the Falls to their best showing in years. EDSON LINDSEY JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL KNEELING: E. Boyce, W. Brown, J. Our Varsity basketball team enjoyed a successful season under Coach Danforth, ending the season in second place as the result of a playoff win against St. Lawrence Central. The team compiled a record of eight wins and five losses. In January, the team had a three and four record and was fighting to hold on to fourth place. The Varsity then came on to win five of its remaining six games and advance to the playoffs and sectionals. Roger Parks and Pat Falvey, due to their height, were great assets under the backboards. Wayne Niles played an outstanding season on defense while scoring over 125 points. Dave Converse and Donald Parks scored over 250 points apiece for the Saints. Pat Falvey, playing his first season of basketball, scored over 175 points and Roger Parks came through with close to 100 points. Edson Lindsey was the most valuable substitute and figured in many of the team wins. The team featured five seniors who saw their high school dream come true when they gained the opportunity to play in the sectionals. It marked the first time in eight years that a St. Regis Falls team advanced to the sectionals. The Junior Varsity team, coached by Mr. Martin, played well throughout the season but lacked the experienced players to provide victory. The team gained experience and provided the spectators with some exciting games. JUNIOR VARSITY CHEERLEADERS TOP ROW: Nancy Marsh, Nancy Mendelsohn, Marietta Collins. SECOND ROW: Janice Ploof, Sandra Richards, Connie Falvey. This past year, by selling candy at games, the Varsity Cheerleaders earned enough money to buy ma- terial for new uniforms. The J. V. 's paid for their own material but made them up themselves. Both groups were aided in sewing by Mrs. Flanders. Both squads practice after school and at night. Many new cheers were made up during the year by both the J.V. 's and the Varsity. VARSITY STANDING: Carol Baker, Lurinda Johnson. SITTING: Linda Besaw, Betty Palmer.
