JOHN F. BYRNES Superintendent of Schools Due to his foresight the Co-opera- tive Board, one of the first in the state, was organized. HARRY W. WAGAR Principal Was instrumental in enlarging our school by annexing three rural schools. Beginning in 1855, two Hammond brothers made extensive purchases of timberlands in the vicinity, and in 1860, had a mill in operation and activity really began. Until this time, two or three hunters and trappers were the only inhabitants. The present town was shut in for miles on every side by forests and the only roads were trails. Other mills and factories, such as the mica plant, leather mill, and chair factory followed the Hammonds' lumber mill. Pictured at the left is one of these old mills, the chair factory. The mill, whose output was 600 chairs a day, was destroyed by fire in 1909. Mr. J. Sharpstene Mr. H. Hollister, President Mr. V. Langdon, Vice President Mr. P. L. Rowell Mr. C. Bishop Mr. J. High in the mountains, yet in a valley so small, Lies St. Regis Falls, so loved by us all. Fresh air and sunshine surround our small town. We go skiing and skating the winters round. Our summers, so pleasing, to the beach we go, Or folks with fish poles up the river row. In our school, clubs and churches, pride we possess. In our hearts, our home town surpasses the rest. Memories of St. Regis Falls' hillsides, townspeople, and school will always remain dear to our hearts, no matter how far we may travel on life's journey. We will forget nothing. The town where we worked and played, suffered and rejoiced, will always be a part of us. TO OUR TOWN AND THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN IT, WE DEDICATE THIS 1957 REGENT. DEDIC i. k' Ms randpa Lemieux at 93 Cath
