MENDELSOHN Bob Student Council 1 REGENT Advisor Band 1,2, 3,4 Springtime for Patsy HISTORY Karleen Keitha Gloria t Janice In September 1952 thirty-five students entered S. R.F. High School, the foothills of our Mountain, in bewilderment. With the guidance of Mr. MacRae, Ranger, we were starting on our painstaking journey to the top. To head our class, we chose Jeanne Giffin, President;DonnieParks, Vice President;GraceGadoua, Secretary; and Verness Woodward, Treasurer; Janice Corwin and Bobby Walker, Student Council Represent- atives. During this year Billy Baxter, Earl Greguire, Edward Chapman, and RobertPloofleftschool.JamesSwanson and Earl Jock moved away. To start a New York Trip fund, we sold score sheets at the basketball games, netting $2.85. Gradually progressing up the Mountain, 28 of the class climbed to the sophomore room where Mr. Sharp- stene was Ranger. Officers elected were:GraceGadoua, President;Harold Phillips, Vice President; CarolMoose, Secretary; and Gail Forkey, Treasurer; Jeanne Giffin and Donnie Parks, Student Council. Janice Corwin served as Student Council Treasurer during this year. Five more students fell back, Janet Wilson to get married to LorenPloof, Marcia LaBounty, Philip Mc- Causlin, Ronnie Martin and Clyde Leffler. Clyde is now in the Marines while Ronnie and Phil chose the Air Force. We made a great spurt up the Mountain when Fred Duby moved here from Syracuse. $58.50 was earned during this year - $3.00 prize for decorating store windows at Halloween time, spon- soring a Boy Scout banquet, and raffling two chickens for $35.65. We now pushed hard to get to the next resting place on the Mountain. Only 20 of us withstood the hard- ships of Sophomore Trail. We found Mrs. Mendelsohn as Ranger at Junior Plateau. The elected officers were: Donnie Parks, President; Grace Gadoua, Vice Presi- dent; Barbara Palmer, Secretary; Treasurer, Gail Forkey; Student Council, Carol Ploof and Harold Phil- lips. Three officers of the Student Council were also Juniors: President, Jeanne Giffin; Vice President, Don- nie Parks; and Treasurer, Janice Corwin. The first dance was the Junior Round-up, netting $48.06. Christmas Wreaths made from boughs gath- ered on the Mountain netted $39.30. The Juniors and Seniors had two projects together, jam making and selling, and a Kiwanis banquet netting $48.55. In June, for the first time the Junior-Senior Banquet was Vern and Barry Jeanne held outside the school at the Hotel Moira which was very beautifully arranged for the affair. Each girl had a corsage and each boy a boutonniere made by the Junior girls. Donnie Parks, President of the Junior Class responded to David Parks' advice to the Juniors. The history of the class of '55 and the Last Will and Tes- tament, and the prophecy were read. On the last climb to Senior Hill, two students, Fred Dubyand Bob Walker joined the class again, hav- ing recovered from injuries suffered climbing Junior Hill. Everyone reported to Senior Hill with Mrs. Smith as ranger with the knowledge that the toughest climb to Summit Graduation was ahead of them. Officers elected: President, Jeanne Giffin; Vice President, Philip Winters; Secretary, Barbara Palmer; and Treas- urer, Harold Phillips. Verness Woodward and Karleen Martin were Student Council Representatives under Donnie Parks, President of the Council. The first money making project was the annual magazine campaign and $216.OQ was cleared. The Rebekah banquet followed netting $87.00. $8.45 was madejrom selling candied apples. After much fun and hard work SPRINGTIME FOR PATSY was produced. A record was set for the net receipts which were $85.00. Christmas season found all busy working on the Car- nival, at which $250.00 was cleared. A Bake Sale netted $35.00. The Siren” which has received the All-New York t State Rating for the first time is being published through the efforts of the Seniors with Jeanne Giffin, Editor. In October at E.S.S.P.A., history was made. For the first two trophies were awarded to S.R.F. - one for feature to Jeanne Giffin, and one for general excel- lence on Editorial Page. Thelatter was received by Janice Corwin. Another record smashed by the class is the total of students enrolled in colleges for September 1956 - Grace Gadoua and Karleen Martin to Crane in Pots- dam; Barbara Palmer - S.U.T.C. at Potsdam; Janice Corwin - S.U.T.C. at Plattsburg for nursing; Carol Ploof - Champlain Valley Nursing School, Plattsburg; Verness Woodward - CantonA.T.I. and Jeanne Giffin - St. Lawrence University. As the REGENT, edited by Janice Corwin, goes to Press the class is dreaming about their coming New York Trip. These past four years have been a wonderful, ex- hilarating climb to the summit. This would not have been possible without the efforts of our parents, our principal, the faculty, the board of education and the townspeople. Oui greatest goal is to meet the Chief Principal, Harry Wagar, one night in June.
