May God spare him for other Raphaelites for many years to come. And may his name find a place among our whispered prayers as often as we per- use these pages in happy reminiscenoe of High School Days. REVEREND JOSEPH BERKMYRE E, 1 'F f 1 E IL: i! . 5 A .fi . , 1 1 5 K ,,. Cardinal Mindszenty Illehicaiinn To that vast throng of modern martyrs, members of the Church of Silence behind the Iron Curtain who this day, as He suffered for men, are themselves suffering FOR CHRIST at the hands of those who are WITHOUT CHRIST we dedicate this yearbook. May it serve as tangible proof that the years to come will find us, the Christophers of '53, ever striving to make our lives instrumental, in some little way, in bringing that part of the world back to the feet of Christ, where alone, it will find light and peace. MARY LOUISE CORVELLO In the absence of the class president Ma y Lou ably handled our class meetings. Because of her dependability Mary Lou has been selected to hold many important posi- tions in school affairs. MARY AGNES CARR A nsharpn little 'noten for '53... one of the musical members of our class, whose beau- tiful voice has us on many occasion. May life be one melody. With swords and clubs their enemies drag them before their false ac- cusers. ANTOINETTE CORSO WJust what the doctor orderedn for' our class treasury. We'd call her talkative but one must remember, she has Egg to talk for. ,.,,x,s1 MAUREEN HAUF Determination and perse- verance are Maureen's outstanding characteris- tics. May she use them to acquire knowledge that will make her pleasing to God and man. Mental torture weaves a crown for the heads of today's faithful follow- ers of Christ. Q LOIS GUARINO One of the classe's npurple heartn vet- erans of the oper- ating room. An artist of no mean ability. Takes time to do a little thinking while sis- ter Linda is doing the talking. MARY CATHERINE HACKWELDER Surmounting difficulties was Mary Catherine's task during her senior year. However, sickness and a long distance to travel didnt daunt Mary Catherine's quiet de- termination to complete her senior year and for this we are thankful. E E E Thb sickle and the ham- mer crucify them. f PATRICIA KERNAN Pat's cheerful disposition can easily be detected in her sparkling eyes, winning smile and gracious manner. We are certain that whatever God asks her to do in life, she'l1 smile and say ncertainly God.W SUSANNE KELLY .-me 'ak Vivaclous, witty, carefree are only a few of the adjec- tives we can use to describe Sue. No one has the 'bluesn when they see Sue's auburn hair, brown eyes and cheerful grin. ,,d' MARY HOOLAHAN Good grades have enabled Mary to fulfill her am- bition to try to become a nurse. She has been accepted in a school of nursing and we know that she will imitate the one whose name she bears in her charity toward the sick. I PATRICIA MALONEY nAbsence makes the heart grow fondern Cfor Patl as far as we are concerned. Sickness has caused Pat to lose some time from school but we are glad that she didn't lose too much for we didn't want to lose her. E E EI E 5 MARLENE MARQUIS Quietly, efficiently, and successfully, lar- lene has worked for a good record of her high school days. We hope that she will always be proud of the record that she will earn for eter- nity. QE Y 5 if Q ,-ww af , W .,....-. fa KATHLEEN McKENNA Kay possesses the rare quality of being a good nlistenern. We don't mean that she is seen but not heard but just that she will listen and understand when someone needs a friend. This ability has helped her to listen to God too and not just talk to Him. We hope that she will meet the difficulties of life with a firm trust in God and with the same unruf- fled manner that has en- deared her to us. x MARY ALICE MORGAN WBus1ness before Pleasuren seems to be the motto of the efficient typist for our year book. Mary Al1ce's commercial marks are high and we hope that she will soar high not only temporally but spiritually. MARY LOU NENE Mary Lou's knack of expressing her ideas in writing guided us in selec- ting her to edit our book. The power of the written word cannot be esti- mated and we sincerely hope that Mary Lou will use her talent of writing to make God and His truths known. I , KATHRYN NICHOLAS Many people will give generously of everything but their time. That's how Kay differs from many people--she is al- ways the first to offer assistance and the last to leave. Q' X ia 1 SISTER MARCELLINE lsister of Maryknolll After four years of imbibing a Christo-centric education taught in the reflected brilliance of the light of Christ... And four years of privileged association with dedicated Sisters who personalized reflection of that Christ- light in their daily lives... And after coming to dedicate our own personal Year Book to the Christopher theme: uBetter to light one can- dle than to curse the darknessn... With the hope that we, the seniors, will take our own nlittle candlesn across the threshold of graduation to an ailing world... Then came Sister Marcelline, of Maryknoll, with the vi- brant, soul-stirring, eye-witness account of the last blessed days of Bishop Ford, one of the most recent of our modern-day martyrs...one of America's most heroic Christophers... With a countenance radiating the Christ-light of martyred sanctity with which she was s privileged associate, Sister seemed almost a Providential visitor to our school, when thoughts of Christ-bearing ran high in our minds. To Sister Marcelline, for bringing us a dynamic, living experience with a sainted Christopher... And for givin ,us, in her own person, a vital, flesh-and blood link between saintly heroism in a faraway land and our own daily lives... We express our sincerest gratitude, coupled with a guaran- teed remembrance in our prayers, that she may soon again realize her desire to return to the mission fields to continue bringing Christ to others.
